Emily Blunt has officially joined the cast of the upcoming adaptation of the classic TV series The Fall Guy. Blunt will co-star alongside Ryan Gosling, with director David Leitch also already attached to the project in a directorial role. The film is currently slated to premiere on Friday, March 1, 2024, with Universal Pictures planning for a wide release of the film. No other roles have been announced as of yet, but prior reports on the film suggest that Universal is still looking to bolster the cast.

Currently, plot details for the film are unknown, although the series the film will be based on centers around Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stunt man who moonlights as a bounty hunter. The series focused on Seavers as he utilized his stunt background to capture all types of fugitives and criminals. In the television series, he was accompanied by his cousin and stuntman-in-training Howie Munson and a fellow stuntwoman named Jody Banks.

The film marks a reunion for Blunt and Universal after she recently wrapped production on the Christopher Nolan pic Oppenheimer, which also stars Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon. Blunt was recently seen in the Disney pic Jungle Cruise opposite Dwayne Johnson. She is currently filming the Netflix drama Pain Hustlers opposite Chris Evans.

The original The Fall Guy premiered on ABC in November 1981, running for 5 seasons and more than 100 episodes before ending in May 1986. Leitch is also producing the Universal pic with partner Kelly McCormick (Bullet Train, Nobody, Atomic Blonde) via their company 87North. Drew Pearce, who worked with Leitch on Universal’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, wrote the script and serves as executive producer. Additionally Gosling will produce along with Guymon Casady (Game of Thrones, Steve Jobs). Geoff Shaevitz and original series creator Glen A. Larson will also executive produce. Production for the film is set to begin in Australia this fall.
