Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' opening weekend box office could steal the top spot from John Wick: Chapter 4. Following the ill-fated adaptation from 2000, Dungeons & Dragons now has a second chance at becoming a successful film franchise. With Game Night's Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley writing and directing, the star-studded Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves cast features Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, and Sophia Lillis as a band of unlikely adventurers on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic.
Now, ahead of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' release date, new projections reveal it could steal the #1 spot from John Wick: Chapter 4, but not top its prior opening weekend of $73.5 million. Per Variety, the D&D movie's opening weekend is projected to be between $30 to $40 million. It will be a close race, though this could be enough to steal the top spot from John Wick 4, which is expected to gross an impressive $36 million in its second weekend in theaters.
March Has Been A Great Month For Movies
If Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves opens strong, it will cap off a great month of movies and a lucrative period at the box office. With the release of Creed 3, Scream VI, and John Wick: Chapter 4, the month of March has seen each release set opening weekend records for their respective franchises and were well-received by critics and audiences. However, the month hasn't been flawless, as Shazam! Fury of the Gods opened well below expectations and split critics straight down the middle.
Based on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' rousing reviews and box office projections, it appears it will cap off a great month of movies. Even though it won't top John Wick 4 as the biggest opening weekend of the month, Honor Among Thieves has the potential to become a word-of-mouth hit by appealing to both diehard D&D fans and broader movie-going audiences alike. It should also have no problem improving upon the Dungeons & Dragons movie from 2000, which debuted to a dreadful $7 million at the box office.
