The trailer for Mack & Rita, a new comedy with a magical twist, has been released. The film stars an unlikely pairing of 31-year-old Taylour Paige and 76-year-old Diane Keaton. Paige previously appeared in the raucous and raunchy A24 comedy Zola, whereas Keaton is most known for her work in Annie Hall (1977), for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress.

Despite their starkly different filmographies, the Mack & Rita trailer sees Paige and Keaton star alongside each other as a comedic duo. As seen in the trailer, which was released by Gravitas Ventures, 30-year-old friends Carla (Paige) and Mack (Elizabeth Lail) take a Palm Springs vacation that goes awry when Mack is magically transformed into a version of her older self, “Aunt Rita” (Keaton). Forging her own adventures in her new body, Aunt Rita becomes a social media star and strikes up a potential romance with Mack’s cute dog sitter (Dustin Milligan).

Mack & Rita is directed by Katie Aselton. Aselton’s film work has primarily been on screen, as she has acted in work such as The Gift (2015) and Bombshell (2019). Mack & Rita will be Aselton’s first time in the director’s chair since her indie thriller Black Rock was released a decade ago.

The trailer for Mack & Rita promises a true comedy, updating classic tropes of the body-swap or woke-up-in-the-wrong body subgenre as seen in films like Freaky Friday and Big. Paige and Keaton are an unlikely but charming pair in the film. Mack & Rita also stars Simon Rex, Loretta Devine, Amy Hill, Lois Smith, Wendie Malick, Patti Harrison, Martin Short, Addie Weyrich, Aimee Carrero, and Nicole Byer.
