Deadpool 2 Star Says Reshoots Benefitted The Movie
David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 may have grabbed headlines with its shock announcement of reshoots, but one of the movie’s stars is here to put everyone’s mind at ease.
With more bullets and bromance than Tim Miller’s original, Deadpool 2 will see the iconic pairing of Wade Wilson and Nathan Summers as Deadpool and Cable come together. However, apart from new cast additions like Zazie Beetz, Terry Crews, and Josh Brolin, Deadpool 2 is also bringing back talent from the first movie. Among the returning actors are Brianna Hildebrand, reprising her role as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
While Warhead is expected to again have a secondary role in the movie, the girl behind the mutant is here to reassure fans that recent reshoots are here to help enhance Leitch’s vision for the sequel. Speaking at MCM Comic Con (via ScreenGeek), she revealed that it will all work out in the end:

“It was nothing that had gone wrong. I think it’s a common misconception too – that people think that reshoots are to fix things that people didn’t like. A lot of the time, reshoots are to add more of the things that people loved. [Filmmakers] watch their films again and are like “better fix that”. I don’t know how much I can say about that. Usually films hate it when you talk about their reshoots – solely because people think that it’s because the film was bad for the test audience – but it was all good.”
Reports first surfaced that the movie had performed poorly at test screenings and was heading back in front of cameras to add in more Domino and Cable. Other reports were that Deadpool 2 was still getting rave reviews and Leitch was just responding to audience feedback. Hildebrand clearly has her own thoughts, but are they just a pre-prepared response given by the marketing department to calm some troubled waters? With Beetz and Brolin’s additions as major cast members being hyped long before Deadpool 2 even went into production, it makes sense that Fox is keen to use the two fan-favorites as much as possible. Brolin himself already said that the reshoots were nothing to be worried about, so at least the actors all seem to be on the same page.
The future of Fox is shrouded in mystery in the wake of the studio’s impending merger with Disney, but there is no arguing that Deadpool is one of its most profitable entities. Given that Miller’s movie became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, it is safe to say that Deadpool 2 has a lot to live up to. Also, in a year of huge superhero movies like Aquaman, Avengers: Infinity War, and Fox’s other offering with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, there is a lot of competition at the top going against Deadpool 2.
With plans for an X-Force spinoff and obvious hopes for Deadpool 3, it is important that this year’s movie performs to the best of its ability. If that means a couple of reshoots to strengthen the franchise’s future, then who’s to complain? Either way, it sounds like fans will get a lot more Domino and Cable for their buck when Deadpool 2 opens.
