Could Hugh Jackman Be Playing Multiple Wolverines In Deadpool 3?
Deadpool 3 will see the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, which might include the star playing multiple versions of the character, if Jackman himself is to be believed. Jackman and Deadpool 3 lead Ryan Reynolds shocked the world last year with the announcement that the X-Men franchise actor would be returning as his iconic character Wolverine for Deadpool's first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speculation on how Jackman's Wolverine can return has run wild ever since, and the actor himself has just added another piece to the puzzle.
Jackman told Le Parisien (via Deadpool Updates) that he will be pulling double duty on Deadpool 3.
Wolverine's complete movie timeline has allowed Jackman to play the mutant at different times in his life, with the actor's most recent portrayal of the character — 2017's Logan — pitting two versions of Wolverine against themselves. With Jackman saying he has a "double role" in Deadpool 3, it appears that Marvel Studios will be using the Multiverse Saga to its fullest.
What Wolverine Variants Could Hugh Jackman Play In Deadpool 3?
Jackman's reveal makes sense, given that the MCU will be the home of Deadpool 3, and Marvel is hard at work in developing the multiverse. There have already appeared a number of variants from beloved MCU heroes, with the Disney+ series Loki and the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness leading the charge. While fans have been asking for Jackman to wear Wolverine's yellow costume in Deadpool 3, it appears that there is now a real possibility that the actor does just that, but as the MCU version of Wolverine.
While the MCU using actors from the past X-Men movies until now — such as Evan Peters and Patrick Stewart — has been with the purpose of them having cameos opposite Marvel's own heroes, it is possible that Jackman himself will stay on as the MCU Wolverine starting with Deadpool 3. The movie is set to bring Reynolds' foul-mouthed mutant fully to the MCU, and Jackman could have decided that staying on with his friend — so Wolverine can return in Avengers: Secret Wars in the foreseeable future — might be a fun enough thought to warrant going through the excruciating Wolverine workout and diet for a few more years.
Of course, several possible Wolverine variants could allow Jackman to stick around the MCU a little longer for the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga without the actor playing the MCU Wolverine. Jackman's last turn as the character could come back with the actor playing a variant of Old Man Logan, whose stoic attitude would bounce off Reynolds' chatty Deadpool nicely. The distant future timeline of Logan is not the only possible route, with Deadpool 3 being able to pick any point in the timeline of the X-Men movies from which to take a variant of Jackman's Wolverine, meaning possibilities are aplenty for Marvel's highly creative team.
