Captain Marvel: FIRST LOOK At Carol Danvers In Costume Released
Marvel Studios' next release, Captain Marvel, unveils a first look photo of Brie Larson suited up in costume as Carol Danvers' superhero alter-ego. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with Iron Man in 2008, and it turned out to be a successful year for Marvel Studios. Kicking off with the record breaking hit Black Panther, then continuing on with the beginning of the end of the MCU so far with Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios capped off 2018 with the critically well received sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp. Although 2018 was a major year for Marvel Studios, 2019 may be just as big - if not bigger - thanks to Captain Marvel, Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Given their secretive nature, Marvel Studios hasn't started marketing any of their 2019 films (Avengers 4 doesn't even have an official title yet). But with Captain Marvel poised for an early 2019 release, it's time for Marvel to officially start promoting the 90s-set solo movie for Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). Marvel unveiled a first look photo when Captain Marvel started production, showcasing Larson in costume as Carol, but not in the titular superhero's iconic suit. Set photos for Captain Marvel did reveal Larson suited up in a green version of the character's costume. But fans had yet to see an official first look of the Captain Marvel costume - until now.
EW released a first look at Larson suited up as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. The first glimpses of Larson in the iconic superhero costume come courtesy of an EW magazine cover and an additional photo. Both preview the bright colors of the Captain Marvel suit, which fall in line with the comic book character's design, as well as the flexible armor-like feel of it that fans saw from the set photos. And, of course, Larson is sporting her 90s hairdo to remind fans in which decade the movie is set. Take a look at the cover and photo below.
The Captain Marvel costume is largely what fans likely expected from the Marvel Studios movie. Like the designs of fellow MCU heroes, it honors the comic book character while also adapting the costume so that it works in a live-action film. As seen by the second photo, which appears to be a still from the film, Captain Marvel's costume will have slightly less vibrant colors in the movie than on the EW cover. While fans might like the vibrancy of the magazine cover, it's unrealistic for a fight suit to remain as clean as shiny as that.
Of course, now that the EW magazine cover has been released - generally the first step in marketing any big comic book movie - fans are likely looking forward to the first Captain Marvel movie trailer. While Marvel hasn't officially announced a release date for the trailer, many have speculated it will arrive sometime this month. For now, fans will have to wait and see - and tide themselves over with this first look at the Captain Marvel costume.
