The first Black Adam test audience gushes about Dwayne Johnson's DC Extended Universe movie in a new video. The Rock has waited over a decade to play Black Adam, and the wait is nearly over for the powerful villain's big screen arrival. Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and features a great cast around Dwayne Johnson's titular anti-hero, including Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. These heroes make up the Justice Society of America, which will play a central role in Black Adam's story after Johnson's character is reawakened.
Even though there has been a long wait to see Johnson's Black Adam on the big screen, anticipation has remained relatively high to see his take on the DC villain. Black Adam suffered through several delays caused by COVID-19, but it is finally nearing its theatrical release in October. It was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that Black Adam was completely finished with a locked edit that has been shown to the cast. This came after a round of reshoots and test screenings to gauge the audience's enjoyment of the movie and make any potential improvements to the upcoming DCEU movie. Now, Johnson has shared a behind-the-scenes look at this process.
In a new video shared by Johnson, the first test audience reaction to a Black Adam screening is shown. The Rock secretly sat in the back of the theater before surprising viewers with his presence when it was time to collect feedback after the movie ended. The Black Adam audience reactions shown are quite positive, as the viewers gushed about Johnson's performance, his transformation into Black Adam, and the unpredictable nature of the plot.
Since Black Adam is finished and hitting theaters in just over one month, this test screening likely happened a long time ago. Based on the audience reactions shown in this video, it would seem that Johnson and the Black Adam team would not need to change much about the 2022 superhero movie. Of course, the video only shows a handful of responses and obviously avoids revealing any spoilers, so the full extent of the feedback remains a secret.
It should be a great sign for Black Adam that some early audience reactions were so positive. Johnson is known for delivering big, crowd-pleasing blockbusters, so Black Adam has the chance to be the latest example. There are already early ideas for spinoffs and sequels that should happen at Warner Bros. as long as the movie is a hit. If general audiences love Black Adam as much as this first test screening, greenlighting more movies or HBO Max shows with these characters could be an easy early decision for new DC Films president Dan Lin.
