Arnold Schwarzenegger & Linda Hamilton Return In Terminator: Dark Fate Images

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton are back together in brand-new images from the upcoming Terminator sequel, Terminator: Dark Fate. It's been thirty-five years now since Schwarzenegger and Hamilton first shared the screen as the T-800 and Sarah Connor in James Cameron's 1984 sci-fi action-thriller classic, The Terminator. Where Hamilton has only reprised her role once in the decades since then (for Cameron's 1991 sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day), Schwarzenegger has playing a leading role in three of the four Terminator films released over that same period of time.

Following Terminator Genisys' failed attempt to kick-off a new trilogy back in 2015, the franchise is going back to the drawing board with Dark Fate. The film will ignore the events of the previous three Terminator sequels and serve as a direct continuation of Judgement Day, complete with Hamilton playing a nearly thirty-years older version of Sarah. It will also introduce a fresh set of characters who could potentially carry the franchise forward from here - all of whom are featured in the latest promotional stills from the movie.

Paramount released half a dozen fresh images from Dark Fate online today, including photos of Schwarzenegger and Hamilton in the film. The pair are joined in these stills by their costars Natalie Reyes (2091), Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Diego Boneta (Scream Queens), and Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Schwarzenegger is believed to be playing the human model for the T-800 in Dark Fate (hence his grey-haired appearance in these photos), with Genisys actor Brett Azar reportedly bringing the T-800 itself to life again. Meanwhile, Reyes is playing Dani Ramos, a young woman who finds herself being hunted by a new Terminator model (Luna) that's traveled back in time from the future to kill her. Boneto is also playing a human by the name of (again, reportedly) Miguel Ramos, which begs the question of whether his character is related to Dani in some way (a la her brother, husband, or perhaps even her future son). Lastly, Davis is playing Grace, a soldier-assassin from the future who's heavily speculated to be a cyborg of some kind.

It'll be interesting to see if Dark Fate is the sequel that finally reaches the bar set by Judgement Day, when it comes to both critical and commercial success. Deadpool director Tim Miller's involvement here is certainly encouraging, as are the talented cast and Cameron's contributions as both a producer and a cowriter on the screen story. Paramount isn't short-changing the film when it comes to budget, either, and is supposedly spending upwards of $200 million to get things right this time (according to Schwarzenegger, anyway). We will see if this time's the charm when Terminator: Dark Fate reaches theaters this fall.
