A new poster for Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead movie has just been revealed, and it looks a lot more colorful than his previous works like Justice League. The story takes place in Las Vegas following a zombie outbreak. Here a group of mercenaries, led by Dave Bautista, score the heist opportunity of a lifetime. All they have to do is avoid the hordes of flesh-eating zombies in the process.
Zack Snyder actually made his directorial debut with his remake of Dawn of the Dead back in 2004. Interestingly, that movie was actually written by The Suicide Squad director, James Gunn. Army of the Dead has been in development for so long that Snyder actually started planning the movie in 2007. He has been working on the film on and off for the past fourteen years, setting it aside to work on other projects. It was not until 2019 when he finally had the time to direct the movie. Alas, the film will finally be released by Netflix later this year. The trailer for Army of the Dead just dropped only about a month ago, showing a fun, violent romp that could get almost anyone excited.
Now, Netflix has revealed a new poster for the movie matching the trailer's chaotic and vibrant energy. On the poster is Bautista standing with four other mercenaries on top of a slot machine that reads, "Always Bet On Dead." Behind them are colorful graphics including a neon skull, coins, lipstick, dice, and diamonds.

The poster makes it very clear that this movie will be very different from Snyder's work within the DC Universe. Both the poster and the trailer hint at this movie being bright, campy, and fun. This stands in direct contrast to his most recent film, Zack Snyder's Justice League which is dark, serious, and gritty. Snyder's critics have often chastised him for overusing this aesthetic in his movies, so it is nice to see something new from him.

Since Warner Bros. has made it very clear that they have no intention of carrying on with the Snyderverse, Army of the Dead is now Snyder's chance to solidify himself as a formidable director post-DC. Going in a direction that juxtaposes those DC films both aesthetically and tonally could be a smart way to do that. Snyder and Netflix must see a lot of promise in this property as they are already working on an Army of the Dead live-action prequel and an animated prequel series. If this movie is a big hit, then this could be Snyder's next big franchise. Regardless, audiences will decide the film's fate when it is released on Netflix this May 21st.
