Aquaman Final Trailer: Meet the Protector of the Deep

The final trailer for James Wan's Aquaman has been released, with Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry facing his destiny to become the King of Atlantis - and perhaps even something more. The film marks the first DC Extended Universe release since last year's Justice League, so fan anticipation is naturally high.

Though it's set after the events of Justice League, Aquaman will also be an origin story - exploring Arthur's early life as the child of the Atlantean Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and a mortal man (Temuera Morrison). After a life spent estranged from Atlantis, Arthur is called upon to protect his underwater home when his brother, Orm (Patrick Wilson) threatens to orchestrate a war between the people of the land and the people of the sea.

The release of the final trailer for Aquaman was timed to coincide with tickets going on sale. Thanks to a special deal, Amazon Prime members will be able to see the movie 5 days early. Last week Warner Bros. also released the final posters for the movie, which show Arthur and Mera (Amber Heard) standing side-by-side in the ocean, with Aquaman in his classic gold-and-green costume. Jason Momoa's surfer-dude take on the classic DC character was generally well-received by fans when he made his debut in Justice League, even if the movie itself was somewhat disappointing. The main point of comparison for Wan's movie is Wonder Woman, another superhero origin story featuring a major DC character who was previously introduced in a team-up movie. Wonder Woman managed a $100 million+ opening weekend, but early projections for Aquaman pointed to a much more modest $40-60 million.

Of course, the real test for this movie will be reviews and word-of mouth. Early reactions offered a lot of praise for the movie, so if that pans out leading up to and following the release, Aquaman could have a powerful opening weekend and strong (sea) legs. It's worth noting that this is a pretty awesome final trailer that succeeds in selling the movie and the character at the heart of it - as well as boasting some impressive visuals - which should also contribute to general audience hype.
