Anthony Hopkins Joins Zack Snyder’s Next Netflix Film Rebel Moon

As production continues on Rebel Moon, Netflix has announced that Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins has officially signed on for a voice acting role in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming sci-fi action fantasy film. Hopkins will be lending his voice to the character of Jimmy, described as a sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.

This marks the veteran actor’s latest collaboration with Netflix after working together on the biographical drama The Two Popes in 2019.

Described as a fantasy epic, Rebel Moon is being directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay he is co-writing with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, based on a story by Snyder and Johnstad.

“The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Belisarius,” reads the synopsis. “They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”

The film stars Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), Doona Bae (Sense8), Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), and Stuart Martin (Army of Thieves).

Additional cast includes Jena Malone (Goliath, The Neon Demon), Staz Nair (Game of Thrones, Supergirl), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Alfonso Herrera (Queen of the South), E. Duffy (Acid Noir, Girlfriends), Charlotte Maggi (MaveriX), Sky Yang (Halo, Holding), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), Cleopatra Coleman (Dopesick), Fra Fee (Hawkeye), and Rhian Rees (Nope).

Rebel Moon is produced by Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Zack Snyder for The Stone Quarry along with Grand Electric’s Eric Newman. Sarah Bowen will executive produce for Grand Electric.
