Amazon Signs Latin America Content Deal With Viacom

Under the agreement, Amazon Prime Video has acquired exclusive rights to two new Viacom International Studios series.


Amazon has expanded its original content offerings in Latin America in a push to compete with market leader Netflix.


The streamer picked up exclusive rights to two Viacom International Studios titles, Homens? and Dani Who?


Homens?, created by Brazilian content provider Porta dos Fundos, is a comedy series that follows four close friends who are struggling to understand what it means to be a man in the modern world. The show will premiere globally on Amazon in 2019.


The thriller Dani Who?, created and produced by Viacom International Studios, centers on a group investigating the mysterious disappearance of their friend. Production on the series will begin in 2019.


Amazon has stepped up production in Latin America as part of an assertive effort to go head-to-head with streaming giant Netflix, which has shot more than 70 original shows in the region, including the drama Narcos.


Amazon's Dec. 14 exclusive premiere of LOL: Last One Laughing, a new reality game show featuring Mexican star Eugenio Derbez (Overboard), hits the streaming platform the same day that Netflix premieres Roma, Oscar winner Alfonso Cuaron's acclaimed memoir film set in the director's native Mexico.


Other exclusive Amazon Prime Video offerings in Latin America include Falco, The Good Doctor, Mr. Robot and Diablo Guardian, a series produced by Amazon and Mexican media giant Televisa.
