US Democrats Make Another Effort to Bring in Net Neutrality

Net neutrality story seems to never end.
The news is that the US Democratic Party is planning to have a crack at bringing back net neutrality, which was taken away from people after the telecoms companies complained.

The so-called “Net neutrality” means that Internet service providers have to treat all online data the same.
Therefore, they can’t selectively speed up or slow down data requested by their subscribers because of their selective gatekeeping of the services impacted.

Despite the fact that the rest of the world already enjoys having this net neutrality, the country which claims to have invented the worldwide web keeps insisting that this practice is communistic and negatively effects business.
They call it a government regulation, though it has worked just fine, and the Internet has succeeded thanks to being an open platform. In fact, the telcos have only recently started trying to screw customers for more money.

Until January the only thing ending net neutrality was a ruling by the FCC.
The latter basically claimed that it had the right to police it, but that was shot down by the Court of Appeals.
However, democrats in the House and Senate recently made another attempt to resurrect net neutrality and suggested the Open Internet Preservation Act – a bill that would reinstate net neutrality rules.

The supported of net neutrality consider the regulatory scheme as another step to a free, open, and level playing field.
It is known that the Preservation Act is short and simply restores what was “vacated” by the latest court’s decision. In the meantime, Republicans are in opposition to the Internet rules, so the new bill is unlikely to receive any support in the GOP-controlled House.

The experts point out that there are some other dangers missed by the GOP yet.
In case there is no net neutrality and broadband providers take a decision who gets full services, they receive full control over what is on the Internet.
As a result, the ISPs can be ordered to remove material the entertainment industry and other parties consider blasphemous and immoral. The whole world is waiting to see what happens when the United States finds itself suffering as its web development falls behind others thanks to its greedy telcos.
