New year, new shows

Happy New Year!

In celebration of another new year, and a whole new crop of shows becoming safe (you have all read the rules on what's safe, right?), we will be having a site-wide freeleech! Enjoy all of the old shows, and the new batch of shows that ended in 2016 that can now be uploaded.

1080p Rips Will No Longer Be Freeleech

The HD freeleech has gotten out of hand again. With the proliferation of web-based "HD" rips we're getting many so-called high definition shows that are comparable in size to a well-crafted standard definition rip. And there's so much of it that it makes it too easy to build a buffer, which then encourages people to download, watch, and delete. That's not the type of site we are, and we want to discourage that sort of thing as much as possible.

And a lot of the high definition rips we're getting just aren't. Yeah, they'll fit a wide screen, but the definition is not high. They've had their bitrates squeezed down to make them easy to stream, and the quality naturally suffers. Meanwhile, a high-quality SD rip costs ratio.

In our never ending quest to make you scream in agony, we will therefore be making the following changes:

HD rips will no longer be freeleech. If there's something you wanted, grab it now because when the sitewide freeleech ends it'll start costing you.

Full uncompressed Blu-Ray discs will still be free, and full uncompressed DVDs will be made free as they come to our attention. Please note that compressed discs will not be eligible for freeleech, and any ISO files that might still be kicking about the place are likewise ineligible.

In other news: Remuxes, the placing of episode files into MKV containers from a full disc without processing, will no longer be allowed. The remuxes already on-site will not be immediately removed, but will be replaced by full discs as such are uploaded.

You may inform us of the short-sightedness and general foolishness of our decisions in 1080p Rips Will No Longer Be Freeleech for all the good it'll do you.
