Security Code: Police Come up with Panacea for Film Piracy

To prevent piracy incidents in Kerala, the state police have come out with a promising solution to provide a security code which would prevent leaking of the film prints from the censor board office or movie theatres. The coding project would be carried out by the Piracy Prevention Cell under the Cyber Dome which would commence its operation later this year from Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.

According to Manoj Abraham, Inspector General, Thiruvananthapuram Range, Piracy Prevention Cell would be the first unit to start functioning under Cyber Dome which is a joint venture of Kerala police and IT firms. “For the prevention of piracy, a separate cell would be formed. We held a meeting with the association of film producers in which our team came out with a solution for piracy by using a security code provided by the police to prevent leaking of film print from studio, censor board office or from the movie theatres,” he said.

Under this project, the police would be generating the security code for accessing the print of the movies. For accessing the movie print, the security code from the police have to be requested and would be generated through the computer. The file carrying the movie can be opened only using the security code. The police can also monitor the persons who are opening the files using the code provided by them.

The police would be asking the theatre operators to install a device which would prevent the capturing of images with any camera or camcorder.
