Group reveals copyright pirate websites

A group of media organisations has drawn up a database of websites that use pirated materials in a bid to stop advertisers from funding such operations.

The move, led by the Creative Industries Association, is meant to protect copyright infringement against rights holders to movies, songs and drama shows.

The association's chairman, Robert Lee, said it has made the "infringing website list" available to advertisers. So far, there are 14 websites on the database.

He said 50 brands have stopped placing advertisements on the websites, which he hopes will stop the pirated pages from running as they lose income from ads.

American film-makers 21st Century Fox and Time Warner, and local broadcaster TVB are among companies who have joined the scheme against the copyright infringement websites.

The association was founded two years ago and it strives for legal protection for copyright holders, and enhance public education about intellectual property rights.
