Facing prison for football piracy

SEVEN PEOPLE have been arrested for illegally broadcasting LaLiga football matches in Alicante, Albacete, Antequera (Malaga), Gandia, Madrid and Xativa.

The content was offered via direct download, peer-to-peer (also known as P2P) and streaming and websites were hosted on servers located in Spain as well as in Canada, France and the United States to make it “difficult to locate” the criminal organisation behind the piracy, the Interior Ministry reported.

The investigation began following a complaint filed by LaLiga in 2016.
The websites were traced which resulted in the arrest of seven members of the criminal organisation and the blocking of seven domains and three bank accounts.
The investigation continues and the National Police have not ruled out further arrests.
