Dotcom Resigned as Mega Director

Kim Dotcom, one of the most famous Internet businessmen, has recently stepped down as director of Mega, the file-hosting service he successfully launched in January 2013. He made a statement saying that he needed to free up time for other projects, including continuous legal battles and his political aspirations. It is known that in a few months Kim Dotcom is going to launch a new music service, whose name is being kept secret.

Undoubtedly, the introduction of Mega is recognized as one of the most prominent tech launches of 2013, and the privacy company has plans to expand its business. But despite this incredible success, Kim Dotcom has decided to move on.

According to filings to the NZ Companies Office, Kim Dotcom was replaced as Mega Director in the end of August. The move was confirmed by the company’s CEO Vikram Kumar, who explained that Kim will use the time to work on his many other projects. For example, one of the new ventures Kim Dotcom will focus on is the music platform earlier known as Megabox. Unlike already operating file-hosting service, the new music platform will be operated by a company owned by Dotcom himself. He previously told that Megabox name was dropped for a better one, but never revealed for which one, only saying that unlike his other projects, “Mega” brand won’t be used this time. At the moment, there are 22 developers working on the project, which will be made public in a few months.

Aside from the music service, Kim Dotcom also has political aspirations. Several days ago he revealed that a draft program for his new party is already written and he is planning to participate in the national elections next year.

Finally, along with his music venture and political aspirations, Mega’s founder is going to focus on the company’s legal battles. At the moment, Dotcom and several of his MegaUpload colleagues continue fighting an extradition request from the US, where they are wanted for a number of alleged crimes. Kim’s extradition hearing is expected in November 2013, but may be delayed until April 2014 because legal arguments on some issues have complicated the case. In the US, MegaUpload has asked the court to dismiss the criminal indictment against it, but the court hasn’t replied yet.
