How To: Blogging with Windows Live Writer
In just about ten years, the Internet managed to sink its roots deep in our daily lives. Almost any kind of product, virtual or not, can be traded, not to mention the amount and variety of info that can be accessed.
Communication benefits greatly from what the information superhighway has to offer. One popular method is blogging, which can easily be done from your desktop, without even bringing up a web browser.
Windows lets you do a little bit of everything with no need for other applications. If you’re into blogging, you might be interested in a Word like environment with several dedicated features to directly upload to your blog.
There’s no service targeted in particular so you’re free to use, or at least try out your luck with any kind of blog. The following steps ensure a quick and easy setup so you can start posting right away.
Setting up an account
Step 1: Download and install Windows Live Writer.
Note: It’s part of Windows Live Essentials so there’s a chance it’s already installed on your machine. If so, hit Win + S and type in the name to quickly find and run it.
Step 2: Pick your preferred blog service.
Step 3: Fill in the fields for web address, username, and password.
Step 4: Wait for connection to be established, while you can choose to have the blog theme downloaded. This provides real time view of how it looks on your blog.
Step 5: Confirm it’s your blog by writing the name.
Note: You can stay connected to more blogs, add several accounts, and easily switch between them from a drop down menu. It’s located in the Home tab, next to the Publish button.
Publish and review
Step 1: Write down a title.
Step 2: Enlist your ideas in the big field below the title.
Optional step: Drag pictures and clips, insert emoticons and maps to enhance your new post.
Step 3: Hit the Publish button. By default, your new blog post opens up in a web browser.
Note: All your recent materials can be reviewed, edited and published again in case you forgot to mention specific details.
