‘You may have worn the prom dress with him, but I get to wear the wedding dress’

A YOUNG bride-to-be’s open letter to her fiance’s high school ex has blown up on social media because of its scary tone, with some calling the writer a “psycho”.

University student, Victoria Higgins, is a regular contributor to online publication The odyssey. She recently wrote the opinion piece in a tone similar to other articles she has penned.

These include: “If you always expect my forgiveness, you don’t deserve to be in my life,” “A thankyou to my future in-laws for giving me my person,” “A thankyou to the girls who didn’t love him right,” and “Millennials: Stop acting entitled, start having respect.”

She might actually have a point with that last one.

The Springfield, Missouri local often references high school in her pieces and her latest was no different. This time it targeted the girl her future husband, Brandon Lee Horsley, took to his high school prom.

“I wish that I could say I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you, but I can’t,” Ms Higgins wrote.

“I can’t because he is mine now, and I get to cherish him forever. You didn’t do that right, and you were not meant to be together. You will find someone too, but I am happy that you were not the one for him.”

The open letter goes on to express “jealousy”, despite the fact that Ms Higgins is getting married.

“Sometimes I have issues with jealousy, and I hate that you got all of the high school stuff with him. You got to go to games and support him. It kills me that I couldn’t be there for him because I know I would have actually been there wholeheartedly. I would have done it out of love, not as a popularity appearance.”

“I hate that you got to go to all of the school dances with him. He got to see you all dressed up and probably told you how great you looked.”

On Facebook, the high school girlfriend, believed to be Shelby Mae Hicks, replied to one comment, saying “I never treated him badly. Ever.” She also has two ‘prom-like’ photos on her Facebook page and both have cropped out the person she attended with.

“You had your time, and now I get the wedding,” gloats Ms Higgins in the online piece.

“I wish I could say that I am sorry it didn’t work out for you, but I can’t. I can’t because he is mine now, and I get to cherish him forever.”

The article has been shared more than 1000 times on social media, with the majority of readers agreeing that this poor bloke is dead set, up to his neck.

But readers were savage.

“How full of yourself do you have to be to write something like that,” one person wrote.

“He needs to run. RUN FOR HIS LIFE!” another wrote.
