Roskomandzor urged Russians not to be gullible and not to install on their smartphones a new popular application, GetContact, which discloses the personal data of the phone book for other subscribers and threatens the transfer of personal information to scammers.

The experts of the department noted that all users were faced with a proposal to install certain applications to find out who had visited their page and how they were recorded in the phone books of other people. Experts recalled that many install application data without thinking about the consequences.

"By installing such applications, you give them access to all (!) Information (including personal information) from your page or phone. But how else will others know how they are recorded or when you were last online? Among your contact details in the phone can also be recorded credit card data, its PIN, passwords from private offices, etc., and all this also appears in public databases after the installation of such applications, "- said in a statement Roskomnadzor.

Experts urge users to think whether they are ready to disclose the contents of their phone book to other people, and also risk transferring personal information to third parties who can use it as they please. Roskomnadzor points out that the data can reach collectors, fraudsters, extorting money fraudulently, financial brokers, imposing unprofitable investments and other intruders.

The application GetContact is currently heading the chart of free applications of the Russian App Store. After installation on the user's smartphone, the program scans the phone book and sends its contents and other personal information to a common database.

Representatives of Roskomnadzor had previously confirmed to the portal iz.ru that they were analyzing the operation of the application and in case of violations it would be blocked.
