"The National Interest" compared the Russian fighters Su-35 and Su-57
MOSCOW, May 31 - RIA Novosti. The fifth-generation fighter of the Su-57 is unlikely to replace the Su-35 generation 4 ++ in the Air and Space Forces of Russia in the near future, writes The National Interest.
The publication claims that the Su-35 is the "most powerful" Russian fighter, which, although designed to gain air superiority, can deliver tangible strikes against ground targets.
The author believes that the Su-35 has long confirmed its capabilities, so the waste of funds for the newest Su-57 "may cause doubts." The article notes that the Su-57 is based on "systems developed for the Su-35," and the main improvement in the new aircraft concerns a glider, which should increase its stealthiness.
The fighter of the fifth generation is equipped with a radar station with an active phased antenna array H036 "Belka", which, according to the author, are comparable to similar Su-35 equipment. In addition, the publication draws attention to the fact that now the Su-57 is equipped with engines of the first stage of AL-41F1 - derived from AL-41F1S Su-35.
The new engine for the Su-57 under the designation "Product 30" is still being tested, the author recalls.
"Thus, perhaps, the Su-57 will not have a particularly bright future," - sums up the publication.
