My paedophile fiancé was looking at child porn while I was in labour

BRIDE-TO-BE Hazel Docherty's life was turned upside down when she discovered child porn on fiance Alistair McKeeman's computer.

The 26-year-old mum, from Irvine, Scotland, had been dating Alistair, 26, for four years before the shocking discovery and instantly decided to shop him to police. Now she has bravely shared her story.

Giving birth to my son, I never imagined that my partner was viewing disgusting images online.

I can’t believe the man I loved for four years was a monster - but the day I found his child porn on the laptop was the worst of my life.

I started dating Alistair in February 2013 after we’d lived in a shared house together.

He was so much fun and had such a goofy personality but when we got our own place together, he started to become lazy.

I’d come home from an eight-hour shift at a call centre to find Alistair slouched on the sofa in his pyjamas.

Despite his faults, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him as he was a caring and sweet guy.

So, in October 2014 when Alistair proposed in a fancy restaurant, I was overjoyed and began planning our dream wedding.

Eighteen months later in April 2016, I discovered I was pregnant.

It felt like my dreams had come true and Alistair was really attentive, refusing to let me lift a finger.

At 36 weeks pregnant, I was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, experiencing contractions but it took three days before my labour became active.

My mum Sandra* joined me in the labour ward and she sent Alistair home to get some rest before I gave birth.

Eight hours later, Alistair returned but he looked exhausted like he hadn’t slept and I was in too much pain to question him.

That day, I gave birth to our son Ben* with mum and Alistair by my side.

Back at home, Alistair was the perfect dad, letting me rest while he took care of Ben. I was so grateful to have him by my side.

One day when Ben was two months old, I decided to take a relaxing bath when suddenly I heard moaning noises from the living room.

Concerned, I rushed in and spotted Alistair watching adult porn while Ben was lying in his basket next to him.

Furious, I switched off the television and grabbed Ben. Alistair accused me of overreacting but he apologised the next day and promised he’d never do it again.

Over the next year he became snappy and distant.

I was convinced he was cheating on me so one day, in June 2017, while Alistair was at work, I logged onto his laptop.

As I clicked onto an image he’d downloaded from the Internet, my heart stopped.

It was child porn.

I was so shocked. I called him and told him to come home.

As soon as he got back, two hours later, I confronted him.

Although he was defensive at first he admitted everything, telling me that he’d been watching child porn while I was asleep and that he’d even watched it while I was in labour.

I immediately hated him for what he had done.

I couldn't bear the sight of him. The man who claimed to love our boy got off on watching other kids suffer.

I felt so violated. The thoughts of what Alistair was doing kept me up at night. I was so hurt, I thought I'd known Alistair all that time but he was hiding dark secrets.

I kicked him out immediately. That evening, I packed my bags and took Alistair’s computer so he couldn’t remove any of the evidence then I fled to mum’s house.

The next day I reported Alistair to the police. For the next 10 days, officers collected evidence and Alistair was arrested.

It wasn't a difficult decision reporting him to the police.

It was just adrenaline. There was never an option not to go to the police.

If I didn't I would not only be defending him I would be letting down other people's children.

He could still have access to children and no one would suspect him - I had to act.

In May 2018, Alistair pleaded guilty to two charges of watching and downloading indecent images.

He received a community payback order with supervision for two years and must register in the Moving Forward, Making Changes programme for three years.

He’s also been placed on the sex offenders’ register for three years.

He also must not use any internet-enabled device unless it retains its history and is not to delete or install software which disguises internet history, plus he has to share his passwords with police.

It’s sickening that he’s walked free from court.

My life has been turned upside down since I discovered the love of my life was a monster.

I’ve been forced to move away from the area to get away from him.

And since Alistair’s been convicted, I’ve barely received support.

There needs to be more help for people like me, I’ve had to completely rebuild my life, piece by piece.

I’ve not spoken to Alistair and he will never see my son again.

It will take me a long time to trust again. But the only man I need in my life is my precious son.

I feel that I’ve been given a life sentence by Alistair. It shows how I never really knew him.

He deserves to be in prison and I want others to know his face so no other families go through what I’ve endured.

I feel I was used as a cover story to hide his actions. It is only after being away from him I realise I wasn't happy.

I don't think he loved me because I don't think he could have behaved like that if he loved me.

What's happened is traumatising. But it's not about me. It's about the children. They have to come first.

I've actually become friends with a woman who has been through something similar and if anyone finds themselves in a similar position I would urge them to tell the police.
