The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation decided to withdraw the rental certificate from the British film "The Death of Stalin." Tass reported on Tuesday and. about. Director of the Department of Cinematography of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova.

On the eve of the meeting, a public screening of the tape took place, attended by filmmakers, State Duma deputies, representatives of the Russian Historical Society, as well as members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Culture. As the head of the Public Council Yury Polyakov noted, "The Death of Stalin" should not be demonstrated in Russia because of signs of "ideological struggle". According to him, "no one has expressed support for this film as an artistic, historical work." The cultural figures who looked at the picture asked the Ministry of Culture to temporarily withdraw the rental certificate.

The basis for the recall, explained Olga Lyubimova, was subparagraph "d" of paragraph 20 of the rules concerning rental certificates approved by the resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation. It states that the rental certificate may be withdrawn in the case of "revealing in a public demonstration of a film materials containing information, the dissemination of which is prohibited by the legislation of the Russian Federation." The procurer is required to return to the Ministry of Culture a rental certificate after receiving a response within 30 working days.

The appearance on the Russian screens of the British satirical comedy Armando Jannucci's "The Death of Stalin", based on comic books by Fabien Nouri and Thierry Robin, was scheduled for January 25. The world premiere took place in September 2017. The plot of the film is centered on the race for power in the USSR after the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953.
