Widely regarded as the queen of online fitness training, Kayla Itsines has built a multi-million dollar empire through her Bikini Body Guides and workout app.

But while her toned physique is the envy of women the world over, it seems Ms Itsines deals with human struggles just like the rest of us - particularly when it comes to her skin.

The social media sensation opened up on Instagram stories to share candid photos of her acne covered cheek in a bid to show followers the reality behind her seemingly perfect appearance.

The exercise guru also revealed the skincare products she now uses to maintain her flawless visage.

'I need to stop you ladies for second,' she wrote to her 10 million strong audience.

'I'm getting heaps of questions about my 'perfect skin'…my skin is FAR from perfect.

'I had acne as a teenager and still have it now.'

The Sweat with Kayla founder then shared two photos of her complexion taken before and after she overhauled her skincare regimen.

One of the products she credits for her dramatic transformation is a $17 gentle cleanser from Cetaphil available from Woolworths.

Ms Itsines admitted she refused to take any pictures of her skin while it was at its worst because it would 'really upset' her.

And while she admitted her advanced skincare routine is 'a lot of effort', the regimen is paying dividends as the entrepreneur now foregoes foundation and wears just 'eyeliner, mascara and pencil' in her eyebrows to show off her stunning visage.

Ms Itsines also shared more of her go-to products, which include a variety of moisturisers and deeply nourishing balms from London brand Medik8 as well as a toner from US based Skinceuticals.

The cleansing gel favoured by Ms Itsines costs $38, while the cream cleanser which promises to hydrate, reduce coarseness and calm hypersensitive skin retails at $45 (both from Medik8).

The fitness mogul also swears by the brand's 'Pore Refining Scrub' and clay mask, which are both priced at $59.

Ms Itsines balances her skin tone with Medik8's moisturiser, which comes with a glycolic acid activator for $98.
