Facebook Is Not Interesting for Youth Anymore

The future of the most popular social network looks bleak: the recent research revealed that the teens reject Facebook faster than advice from their grandparents. The statistics confirm that teens continue to lose interest in Facebook.
Fortunately for the company, they are still showing an increasing interest for Instagram, which was acquired by Facebook not so long ago. A recent semi-annual survey of upper-income and average-income teens in the United States covered about 5,000 teenagers, who were questioned on fashion, video games, Apple products, and social networks.

The researchers admit that Instagram appeared to be the most preferred social site for teenagers. 30% of them chose Instagram as their most important social network. This is very important news for the service, as it has become the top social property for youngsters for the first time ever.

In the last six months, interest level in Facebook dropped from 27% to 23%, Twitter 31% to 27%, while Instagram increased 27% to 30%. Just 12 months ago, Facebook remained the preferred social network for about 33% of teens. In addition, now the report adds to a mounting pile of evidence suggesting that teenagers are bored with Facebook. However, with Instagram now accounting for 200 million monthly active users, Facebook’s appeal problem appears less awful than before.

Financial experts point out that Facebook has been slowly rebounding on Wall Street, as its shares took a hit once news surfaced that the company is going to acquire a virtual reality technology company named Oculus for $2 billion.
