Well, I'm a Jules Verne fan, so I recommend his books, especially 20000 Leagues under the Sea. I feel his sci-fi can really spark up imagination.

If not, look at Russian classics like Dostoyevski, Tolstoy and Turgenyev.

I can also recommend all books by Sidney Sheldon, Jeffrey Archer, Frederick Forsyth. They are my favorite storytellers and novelists.

If you want crime fiction, you will find no one better than Agatha Christie.

As for scifi, books of Asimov and Heinlein are very good, in addition to Jules Verne.
