In China, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up 1.4% at 28,219.19, while the Shanghai Composite was 2.7% higher at 2,779.30.

Investors found some relief after recent falls because of a growing trade war between the US and China.

Trade tensions are likely to come back into focus on Wednesday when China releases its trade balance numbers.
