I'm new here myself, but I'm pretty sure that you can only request invites (a) in the Requests thread and (b) once you have a certain amount of reputation points (though I'm not sure yet how you gain those).

In the meantime, perhaps try rareshare.me which is open just now and which has some decent UK content?
