Port Adelaide respond to AFL text saga allegedly involving player

Port Adelaide are aware of a string of lurid text messages seemingly implicating one of their AFL players in unbecoming off-field behaviour, but haven't verified their content.

The texts - which are viewable on social media platforms - allegedly involved a current Power player trying to obtain illicit drugs and organising sexual encounters.

Power chief executive Keith Thomas said the club was "certainly aware of the commentary that's going on" but wasn't sure of their credibility.

"I haven't spoken to the player," Thomas said.

"It's private content that has potentially been inappropriately placed in the public domain.

"There are people named within it, so I imagine that could be quite embarrassing for them, so I don't want to be fuelling any further speculation about it.

"We don't know any more about the authenticity of this content than anyone else ... I cannot say they are authentic.

"We saw it, we've been following it, we made the AFL aware of it. They were already aware of it. It hasn't gone any further than that."

News Corp reported that both player and club are seeking legal advice on the matter.

The AFL has not commented.
