In a game that lasted less than the length of one half of an ODI match, Shabnim Ismail and Sune Luus registered combined figures of 6 for 32 in 13 overs of bowling to bowl Ireland out for a paltry 69. The visiting South Africa side then chased down the target in just 16 overs to cap off a completely dominating performance.

As many as eight batters for Ireland registered single-digit scores with four of them failing to open their accounts. At the top of the collapse was captain Gaby Lewis, who had elected to bat at the toss. Fast on the heels of Lewis' nine-ball duck, Ireland slipped to 14 for 4 before Shauna Kavanagh and Sophie MacMahon registered the hosts' best partnership of the innings - 21. Ireland seemed headed for a sub-50 total, an ignominy that was averted by Georgina Dempsey's top-scoring effort of 20-ball 19*. Ayabonga Khaka took 2 for 6 to go with the three-fors for Ismail and Luus.

Dempsey provided a modicum of redemption with the ball too when she dismissed Laura Wolvaardt early in the chase. But that was all the success Ireland got to celebrate on a chastening outing for them as Andrie Steyn and Lara Goodall polished off the chase with a 55-run stand.

Brief scores: Ireland Women 69 in 27.2 overs (Sune Luus 3-16, Shabnim Ismail 3-16) lost to South Africa Women 70/1 in 16 overs (Lara Goodall 32*; Georgina Dempsey 1-20) by 9 wickets.
