Fremantle midfielder Lachie Neale yet to make call on trade to Lions

FREMANTLE midfielder Lachie Neale remains undecided about whether he will request a move to Brisbane during next month’s trade period.

The Lions have been open about their desire to secure the prolific on-baller, who has a year to run on his current deal before qualifying for free agency.

Brisbane is reportedly dangling a lucrative five-year-deal contract in front of Neale, and is expected to table a first-round selection - currently No.4 - to complete the deal.

Speaking to AFL.com.au before Monday’s Brownlow medal count, the 25-year-old declared his fondness of Fremantle before conceding it might take him a fortnight to make up his mind.

“I’m still working through it,” Neale said.

“We’ve got a couple of weeks to get our heads around what we want to do. I’ll probably take most of that time as well to sort it out. We’ll wait and see what happens.

“We’ve got to consider everything. It’s a pretty big move across the other side of the country, if that’s what we decide.

“I’ve got nothing bad to say about Fremantle, I love the footy club and the people there. It’s a tough decision but we’ll work through it.”

While news of Neale’s possible departure broke after the Dockers’ season had ended, it has been suggested the midfielder met with Brisbane in Darwin after his team’s 54-point loss to Melbourne.

Neale indicated otherwise.

“I didn’t really speak to my management about it until after the year,” he said.

“I think they had something going a little bit behind doors. I didn’t hear about it until the season finished for us.

“You hear things every now and then, so I wasn’t too surprised, but we took it in our stride and we’ll see what happens.”
