Record-breaking Mushfiqur Rahim (85*) and Liton Das (88*) helped Bangladesh dominate the proceedings in a slow burning morning session after overnight rain delayed the start on Day 4 in Chattogram. Even though the hosts managed to add only 67 in the session - and still trail Sri Lanka's first innings score of 397 by 12 runs - the overnight batters stayed unbeaten and are nearing their centuries, having stretched their fourth-wicket partnership to 165 already.

There was hardly any assistance from the pitch and neither did the Sri Lankan bowlers pose any threat. As such, the pair put Bangladesh on the brink of first-innings parity picking up right from where they'd left off. Liton began the day with a gorgeous cover-drive to bring up the hundred of the partnership while Mushfiqur took the team past the 350-mark.

It was in the second over after drinks when, upon reaching 68, Mushfiqur beat Tamim Iqbal (4981) - who retired hurt on Day 3 on 133 - in the race to become the first Bangladesh cricketer with 5000 Test runs. Three overs later, Liton raised the 150 of the partnership with a brace.

Sri Lanka also burnt their last remaining review on an LBW appeal against Liton, after being turned down by the on-field umpire. The ball-tracking traced the ball to be spinning just about enough to go down legside, leaving Sri Lanka disappointed and without a breakthrough for a second successive session.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 385/3 (Liton Das 88*, Mushfiqur Rahim 85*) trail Sri Lanka by 12 runs.
