Oppo's new phone "confirms" new feature for the OnePlus 7
As you might know by now, Oppo and OnePlus share the same corporate parent, and sometimes a feature that an Oppo phone has first, ends up on the next OnePlus model. When the latest alleged renders of the OnePlus 7 showed up last week, they revealed that the handset will be equipped with a pop-up camera. And today, Oppo made an announcement that pretty much makes a pop-up camera on the OnePlus 7 a lock.
This afternoon, Oppo unveiled the F11 Pro, which features a notchless 6.5-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340. That works out to an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This phone features a 16MP pop-up selfie snapper that will survive being opened and closed 100 times a day for six years. Thanks to this technology, the Oppo F11 Pro does away with both the notch and the punch hole, and still has an impressive screen-to-body-ratio of 90.9%. The thin bezel at the top of the phone houses a pair of proxomity senspors, a light sensor and a microphone. The unit also carries a thin chin at the bottom of the screen. Oppo calls this a "panoramic display."
The F11 Pro is equipped with a dual camera setup in back with a 48MP primary snapper and a 5MP secondary camera. With a large image sensor, users will be able to feel good about taking photos under low light conditions. AI algorithm based settings (Ultra-clear Engine, Ultra Night Mode and Dazzle Color Mode) improve the performance of the camera when snapping photos under all conditions, and the beautification mode for selfies allows the camera to take professional looking portraits.
Keeping the lights on all day is a 4000mAh battery. When it comes to charging up the battery, Oppo's VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 will completely replenish it 20 minutes faster than the previous generation. Powering the device is a MediaTek P70 SoC, and the phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage. The F11 Pro does offer Dual Sim functionality and supports Bluetooth 4.2. A fingerprint scanner can be found under the camera module on the back of the phone.
Oppo wants to invade America after it solidifies its position in Europe
With 64GB of storage, the handset is priced at 24,990 Rupees, which is the equivalent of $350 USD. Pricing of the 128GB model is unknown. Color options are Thunder Black or Aurora Green. And while Oppo recently stated its intentions to enter the U.S. market, this is not an imminent move. The manufacturer said that it wants to solidify its position in Europe first before invading America.
At MWC last month, Oppo unveiled its new 10X lossless zoom technology. This will allow handsets equipped with the feature to offer an impressive telephoto lens with optical zoom that won't negatively impact the quality of a photo when employed. However, you won't find this on the F11 Pro. The company also said in Barcelona that it will launch its first 5G phone during the second quarter of this year.
As we said at the top of this article, when Oppo adds a new feature to its handsets, we often see the same feature in the next OnePlus phone. For example, when the OnePlus 6 launched in May 2018, it featured an iPhone-styled notch at the top of the screen. In August, Oppo released its first phone with a waterdrop notch, the Oppo F9. When the OnePlus 6T launched in November, it came with a waterdrop notch.
Bottom line, while we probably won't see the Oppo F11 Pro makes it way to the states, its pop-up selfie camera is likely to make the journey as a feature on the OnePlus 7.
