The Nokia 9 PureView was delayed due to camera issue, company confirms
At the Nokia 8.1’s launch event earlier this week HMD Global chose to be pretty vocal about its past, present, and future. The company revealed that it has so far sold 70 million Nokia phones and admitted that flagships will eventually become a focus. And now, a newly-published report has revealed that it also spoke about the Nokia 9 PureView.
Speaking to German media, HMD Global’s head of German PR, Britta Gerbracht, confirmed that a high-end smartphone is to be expected towards the beginning of 2019. She also dropped the “Nokia 9” name a few times during the interview and admitted that there had been some delays. According to the representative, HMD Global wants to focus on quality with its next flagship. In this particular case, the company wasn’t happy with the results produced by the rear camera setup so it decided to push back the smartphone’s release.
Sales of the Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco – Nokia’s previous flagship models – were pretty lackluster and the HMD exec recognized this. Fortunately, with the Nokia 9 PureView’s standout features the company hopes to change this. However, it was noted that the biggest and most important flagship entries from Nokia will arrive in 2020 and 2021.
Unsurprisingly, the company’s representative didn’t confirm when the Nokia 9 PureView’s unveiling would actually happen. But if recent information is accurate (it has been so far), an announcement should take place in Late January or early February, after CES and before MWC.
