LG V40 ThinQ starts receiving certifications; unveiling could happen soon
By now, almost all details about the LG V40 ThinQ, including the final design and the rather long spec sheet, are known. But, one thing that has remained pretty uncertain since the very beginning is when LG will actually choose to announce the device officially. Thanks to a fairly recent certification, though, it appears the unveiling could be just around the corner.
The certification in question, which was granted by the Global Certification Forum (a partnership between carriers, manufacturers, and the test industry), was posted on September 6 and refers to the LG V40 ThinQ under both its model number and codename. These are LG-450UA and LG Storm Plus, respectively. For an unknown reason, though, the codename is actually listed as the official marketing name of the device. But, this could easily be an effort on LG’s part to keep the final name under wraps.
As is typical with this kind of listing, no actual information about the smartphone is revealed other than the multiple network bands that are supported. Nevertheless, it does indicate that an official announcement and subsequent release could be on the horizon. Recent reports have previously suggested that LG’s next flagship would arrive on the market after the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and before Apple’s updated iPhone X trio. If this is the case, both the announcement and release of the V40 ThinQ would need to take place before Friday, September 21, which is just over a week away.
Because of the unlikely hood of this scenario, the most plausible option at this point is an announcement on Friday, November 16. After all, this is the date shown in the leaked LG V40 ThinQ press renders that appeared recently.
