Galaxy S10 forecasts increased as 'differentiation' from iPhone boosts sales
A mention of Ming-Chi Kuo’s name usually means new Apple predictions. Today, however, the analyst is breaking with tradition by providing his sales predictions for another lineup of premium smartphones – the Galaxy S10 series.
Previously, Kuo had estimated Galaxy S10 shipments of between 30 and 35 million units by the end of the year. In light of strong pre-order demand, though, the analyst has now increased his estimates rather drastically to between 40 and 45 million units.
According to Kuo, the strong demand for the lineup is down to multiple factors. Firstly, he has confirmed that, as previously reported, interest in the flagships are up significantly in China. Secondly, trade-in programs and a changing view on high-end devices appear to be helping sales. More importantly, though, is the spec differentiation from iPhone models.
The analyst has previously suggested that Apple’s 2019 iPhone series will adopt features such as the triple-camera setup and reverse wireless charging. But the Galaxy S10 series already offers these, and at lower prices.
Samsung’s latest flagships also include a number of other features that can’t be found on Apple’s flagships such as the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. As a result, it seems as Samsung might be stealing some of Apple’s beloved customers.
In terms of how these Galaxy S10 series sales estimates compare to Galaxy S9 shipments, the predicted figures would represent a year-on-year increase of between 30% and 40%. This means that, if sales do indeed reach expectations, Huawei might have a tough time stealing Samsung’s number one crown this year.
