Foxconn started assembling 2018 OLED Apple iPhone models late last month

Look at the back of your Apple iPhone (assuming that you own one) and you'll see embossed on the back the following words: "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China." The company relies on a few contract manufacturers that they trust to assemble their most important product. This morning, we told you about a new report that laid out in some detail what we can expect from the 2018 Apple iPhone lineup. Three new models should be unveiled next month, and in line with previous speculation, there will be a 5.8-inch (OLED) iPhone, a 6.5-inch (OLED) iPhone and a lower priced 6.1-inch (LCD) model.

According to Bloomberg's sources, the two high-end models sporting OLED panels (the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch units) will be manufactured by Foxconn. The latter will split assembly duties with Pegatron for the 6.1-inch LCD unit. According to those in the know, Foxconn started assembling the two OLED iPhones late last month. Due to issues with the display on the
LCD model, assembly of that phone started earlier this month. There has been speculation about a delayed release of this model, with a possible launch taking place as late as November.

TSMC will produce all of the A12 chipsets powering the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones. Recently we passed along a rumor about the lower priced 6.1-inch iPhone. The buzz around the water cooler is that Apple will equip that model with an older SoC, possibly the A10 Fusion that is employed on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
