Ice Cube has become a forever part of Hollywod’s TCL Chinese Theatre, and he celebrated the moment on Instagram.

On Tuesday (April 15), Cube stopped by the TCL Chinese Theatre to imprint his hands and his feet — technically his Converse All-Stars — into the cement outside the venue.

“Today was legendary,” Cube wrote of the moment on IG. “Left my prints in cement at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Honored to continue to receive my flowers in a business I never thought I’d be apart of.”

The moment now includes Cube amongst dozens of other Hollywood elite, including legendary actors like Steve McQueen, Harrison Ford and Jack Nicholson.

“To have my hands, signature, to put the Chuck Taylors in the cement here, it’s next level,” Cube told ABC7 of the honor. “It’s things you don’t even dream of because the dream is too big.”

He added: “I think my forte is truth to power and I think speaking the truth has gotten me power so, you know, I think it’s really about celebrating from NWA all the way to my new records and everything in between.”

During Cube’s ceremony, his son O’Shea Jackson Jr. spoke fondly about his dad. “I said in my speech, ‘People always ask, “What’s it like to be Ice Cube’s son?”‘ I don’t know. You know, O’Shea Jackson Sr. is my dad, and he likes to eat cereal at night, watches the Lakers and would make you take the trash out every now and then.”

Mike Epps also paid homage to his friend, saying: “Ice Cube has been the most influential part of my life apart from my dad. I listened to his music as a teenager. I’m still starstruck of this dude. I’m still amazed at his talent.”

The huge moment comes as Cube gets ready to embark on his Truth to Power: Four Decades of Attitude Tour. Celebrating nearly 40 years in hip-hop, the trek will take the N.W.A rapper across North America starting Sept. 4.

Who knew Gypsy Rose Blanchard was a Cardi B fan?

The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard subject took to TikTok this week to share a “Toot It Up” dance video — set to Pardison Fontaine and Cardi’s February single “Toot It Up” — admirably tackling the viral choreography, including dribbling an invisible basketball between her legs to Cardi’s lyric “If you a ball player, I’m tryna recruit that a–.” It was all going pretty well until the end, when Blanchard dropped it low into a squat… and promptly tumbled backward offscreen.

“It was so close to being perfect. My quirkiness never fails me,” she wrote in the TikTok caption alongside a laugh-crying emoji.

In 2015, Gypsy Rose was arrested alongside her then-boyfriend and subsequently convicted of second-degree murder in the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Gypsy Rose’s life story — about the physical, mental and medical abuse she endured at the hands of her mom — was turned into an eight-episode Hulu series in 2019 called The Act, with Joey King earning an Emmy nomination for playing Gypsy Rose and Patricia Arquette winning an Emmy for portraying Dee Dee.

Gypsy Rose served eight years of her 10-year prison sentence before her December 2023 release. Last year, Lifetime aired two separate Gypsy Rose shows: the documentary series The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and the post-prison reality series Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up. Season 2 of Life After Lock Up premiered last month.

One commenter on Gypsy Rose’s “Toot It Up” dance wrote, “I’m telling my kids this was JLO,” to which Blanchard replied: “Best compliment of my life.”

In addition to its regular grant-making, FYLF also made special grants to The Last Repair Shop Fund and the Music Rising National Disaster Relief Fund to support their efforts to restore music programs and support music students and their teachers who were impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles.

The full list of grantees includes organizations working with youth in theater, dance, music, visual art, and literacy. Grants are selected through a competitive review process. Funding comes from foundation supporters.

Groban, 44, established FYLF in 2011. Its goal is to help enrich the lives of young people through arts, education and cultural awareness.

“These grantees reflect the incredible work being done by teaching artists and educators everywhere to inspire students to explore their creative talents and dreams – especially in neighborhoods and cities where arts funding doesn’t always reach those students with the greatest need,” Groban said in a statement. “I owe my career to incredible teachers who unlocked the door to arts and creativity for me and I’m proud to pay that forward through the work of the board and team at this special foundation.”

FYLF Foundation executive director Jeffrey Dollinger added: “This year’s pool of grant recipients [was] selected from the largest number of applications for support that we’ve ever received.”

The Find Your Light Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that each child has the opportunity to experience a quality arts education. It does this through direct support of arts programs combined with education, advocacy, and outreach. For more information on the foundation and its work, visit www.fylf.org.

In addition to his philanthropic work, Groban is also a celebrated performer, with five Grammy nominations, two Tony nods and two Primetime Emmy nods. ]]>

Almost two months on from the death of actress Michelle Trachtenberg, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner has revealed the cause of her passing.

According to People, a spokesperson from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Wednesday (April 16) that the actress’s passing was ruled as natural, resulting from complications of diabetes mellitus.

“The amended determination was made following review of toxicology testing results,” the spokesperson said, noting that a “toxicology testing can be done without autopsy.”

Trachtenberg died on Feb. 26 at the age of 39, with New York City emergency services responding to an emergency call where they discovered the actress “unconscious and unresponsive.”

Though her death was not treated as suspicious, Trachtenberg’s family declined an autopsy on grounds related to their Jewish faith, with her death therefore expected to be officially ruled as “undetermined.” However, the review of the toxicology results has ultimately provided a form of closure for those close to the actress.

A New York native, Trachtenberg began acting as a child, receiving her breakthrough role by starring in the film Harriet the Spy in 1996, released when she was just 10. By then, she had also made multiple appearances on ABC’s All My Children — working with Sarah Michelle Gellar. That connection led to Trachtenberg joining Gellar on Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 2000 through its 2003 finale.

In 2001, the series’ sixth season featured one of its most innovative and revered episodes, the musical Once More, with Feeling. While most of the show’s stars had their singing talents showcased prominently, Trachtenberg – a trained ballet dancer – requested her dancing skills be the main focus for her appearance. Her vocal talents weren’t entirely absent, however, opening the episode’s coda, “Where Do We Go From Here?,” singing the opening title line a cappella.

The 23-song Once More, with Feeling soundtrack was subsequently released (on Mutant Enemy/Twentieth Century Fox/Rounder Records). Mirroring the show’s trademark witty dialog (one lyric features singing-averse Alyson Hannigan admitting, “I think this line’s mostly filler”), the set slayed Billboard’s charts, most notably debuting at its No. 3 best on the Soundtracks chart — a year after the episode aired. It also hit the Billboard 200 and Independent Albums charts.

To date, the album has drawn more than 23 million streams in the U.S., according to Luminate.

Trachtenberg’s presence in the world of music also extended beyond the world of Buffy, with the actress also appearing in music videos for acts such as Trapt and Ringside, and Fall Out Boy’s “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100. ]]>

Selena Gomez will receive the 2025 Woman of the Year award at the annual Billboard Latin Women in Music event, Billboard and Telemundo announced on Wednesday (April 16). The two-hour special, set to be held in Miami, will air April 24 exclusively on Telemundo.

The Woman of the Year award is presented to a female artist who has demonstrated exceptional success, leadership and cultural influence in the music industry and beyond. Previous Women of the Year honorees at Latin Women in Music include Shakira and Karol G.

A global powerhouse, Gomez has had a fruitful career as a recording artist. On the Billboard charts, the 32-year-old star has had presence across genres, including a total of 42 entries on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, including her first No. 1 hit, “Lose You to Love Me” (2019). On the Hot Latin Songs chart, her featured role on DJ Snake’s “Taki Taki,” alongside Ozuna and Cardi B, debuted at No. 1 on the tally in October 2018, where it ruled for 13 weeks. Since, she’s achieved three additional top 10 hits on the multimetric ranking, including “Baila Conmigo,” her collaboration with Rauw Alejandro, which soared to a No. 4 peak in 2021 and topped the Latin Airplay chart for a week.

The Texas-born artist of Mexican descent further expanded her reach in Latin music with her first-ever Spanish-language project, Revelación. The EP, released four years ago, debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart, making history as the first album by a female artist to achieve the feat since Shakira’s El Dorado. It also scored her a Grammy nomination for best Latin pop album. Most recently, Gomez entered the top five on Hot Latin Songs thanks to “Ojos Tristes” with Benny Blanco and The Marías. The song, a reimagination of the ’80s classic “El Muchacho de los Ojos Tristes,” is part of Gomez and Blanco’s collaborative album, I Said I Love You First.

Beyond her career in music, Gomez — also an award-winning actress, producer and business mogul — has become a leading voice for mental health and social justice issues that impact underrepresented communities. She was Woman of the Year at the 2017 Billboard Women in Music.

Gomez joins this year’s previously announced honorees, including Anitta (Vanguard Award), Belinda (Evolution Award), Celia Cruz (Legend Award), Chiquis (Impact Award), Ha*Ash (Unbreakable Award), Natti Natasha Unstoppable Artist), and Olga Tañón (Lifetime Achievement Award).

The conversation also switched to the discussion of Sheeran’s new music, which includes the recently-released single “Azizam,” which will feature on his forthcoming album Play. While a release date for the record is yet to arrive, Sheeran used his appearance on Call Her Daddy to talk about the music that is still to come in the near future.

“My idea was because the album is so broad, I didn’t want to just be like, ‘Here’s the single. Here’s the album,’ so there’s music coming every sort of two, three weeks,” he explains. “So there’s ‘Azizam’ now, there’s a song called ‘Old Phone’ that comes out in a couple of weeks, and then after that there’s another song coming.

“We shot all these videos and I’m less about single moments and more about, I want people to sort of feel the breadth of the record and I’m very confident that one of the songs will work, but it’s more about just putting ’em out and letting people hear some of the record before it’s out rather than what I’ve done before, which is just like, ‘Here’s my first single. Here’s the album,’ and yeah.”

While Sheeran has already given fans a preview of “Old Phone” by playing it live on The Tonight Show, Cooper also queried the English musician as to how his new music differs compared to what he had released on previous albums.

“It’s definitely different. I think I’ve been more explorative with this album,” Sheeran explained. “I kind of had an attitude of ‘Why the f–k not?’ and not really felt like I have to be in a box of being a singer-songwriter, of like, ‘I have to do this or I have to do that,’ and I lived in India for a little bit and worked with a load of Indian musicians and producers and blah, blah, blah.

“I made a song like ‘Azizam’ with Ilya who’s Persian and that’s in that world and ‘Old Phone’ I think is more in a Nashville country world and there’s just lots of different moments on the record, and the record is called Play and therefore it has to be playful. It has to be celebratory.”

Sheeran’s forthcoming eighth LP follows on from the release of his two 2023 albums, − and Autumn Variations, which peaked at No. 2 and No. 4 on the Billboard 200, respectively. They were his first records not to peak atop the chart since the release of his 2011 debut, +, and were followed in November 2024 with the standalone single “Under the Tree,” as featured in the Netflix film That Christmas.

As Sheeran explained during his chat with Cooper, the general vibe of Play is set to be far different to what what had arrived on his most recent albums.

“I released two albums that kind of, well, one was the sort of main album and one sort of came off the back of it, but they were both very depressing about quite hard hitting subjects, very muted,” he added.

“I still think they’re beautiful records, but I feel like coming out of that, of you know, going through grief and all that sort of stuff coming out, I needed to have something that felt bright and colorful and playful and that’s where doing St. Patrick’s Day, playing at Tootsie’s in Nashville, doing the New Orleans thing, the whole record just has to feel like fun and exciting.” ]]>

Recordings by Amy Winehouse, Celine Dion, Elton John, Mary J. Blige and Tracy Chapman are among this year’s 25 additions to the National Recording Registry, which is administered by the Library of Congress. This year’s selections span 102 years, from 1913 (a recording of “Aloha ‘Oe” by Hawaiian Quintette) to 2015 (the cast album to the Broadway sensation Hamilton: An American Musical).

The list includes three songs that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100: Helen Reddy’s “I Am Woman” (1972), which gave the women’s liberation movement a theme song; Freddy Fender’s country/pop smash “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” (1975) and Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” the Oscar- and Grammy-winning smash from Titanic (1997).

It also includes two albums that reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 – John’s hit-laden double album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) and Chapman’s eponymous debut album (1988). John and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin were the 2024 recipients of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, which is also administered by the Library of Congress.

Tracy Chapman, which spawned the hit “Fast Car” (which was revived by Luke Combs in 2024), was one of three debut albums to be saluted this year. The others are Don Rickles’ comedy album Hello Dummy! (1968) and Chicago’s hit-filled double album Chicago Transit Authority (1969).

Winehouse’s Back to Black, the singer’s second (and, sadly, last) album, was inducted. The 2006 album spawned the smash “Rehab,” which won Grammys for both record and song of the year.

Two double-disk jazz albums – Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew (1970) and Keith Jarrett’s The Kӧln Concert (1975) – were honored. On the jazz fusion classic Bitches Brew, Davis and such musicians as Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea blended jazz with rock elements. It’s Davis’ second album in the Registry, following his 1959 classic Kind of Blue. Davis is the only artist this year to receive a second career induction.

Charley Pride, the first Black superstar in country music, was inducted for his 1971 classic “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’,” which topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for five weeks. Fender’s aforementioned “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” topped that chart for two weeks.

Blige’s 1994 sophomore album My Life, which topped Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart for eight weeks, was inducted. The album was highly personal, with songs addressing clinical depression, struggles with drugs and alcohol and being in an abusive relationship.

The Steve Miller Band were honored for their 1976 album Fly Like an Eagle, which spawned three top 20 hits on the Hot 100, including the No. 1 smash “Rock’n Me.”

Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were honored for their 1952 single “Happy Trails,” which Evans wrote. Rogers is the only artist to have been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame twice – first in 1980 as a member of the Sons of the Pioneers and again in 1988 as a solo artist.

Hamilton (2015) is the first Broadway cast album that was released since Sweeney Todd in 1979 to be selected.

Vicente Fernández’s enduring ranchera classic “El Rey” (1973) joined the roster of Latin recordings in the Registry. See the full list here.

With the aforementioned Rickles album being inducted this year, this is the second year in a row that a comedy album has made the grade. Lily Tomlin’s This Is a Recording was honored last year. Here’s a complete list of the 14 comedy albums in the Registry.

Two left-field selections are Microsoft’s Windows reboot chime (1995), composed by Brian Eno, and David Rosenfeld’s Minecraft: Volume Alpha (2011). Microsoft wanted a brief start-up sound that would play when Windows 95 booted up. They approached Eno, who came up with a sound that Microsoft designers felt conveyed the sense of “welcome, hopefulness and progress” that they desired. Minecraft is the second video game soundtrack to join the Registry, following Koji Kondo’s theme from Super Mario Bros., selected in 2023.

Thelma Houston & Pressure Cooker’s 1975 album I’ve Got the Music in Me is one of this year’s most surprising choices. The album was likely honored because of the unique way it was recorded: live to master disc. Pressure Cooker consisted of top session players of the era, including Michael Omartian, Larry Carlton, Tom Scott and Larry Knechtel. The title track had been a big hit in the fall of 1974 for The Kiki Dee Band. Houston went on to top the Hot 100 in 1977 with “Don’t Leave Me This Way.”

The radio broadcast of the deciding Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, in which the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Yankees, was inducted. Another sports-related entry is Brother Bones & His Shadows’ 1948 recording of the 1925 standard “Sweet Georgia Brown.” The Brother Bones recording was surprise hit in 1949. Three years later, the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team made it their theme song.

Chanticleer’s Our American Journey (2002) saw the acclaimed a cappella choral group taking its listeners on an eclectic musical trip across America, through its history and a variety of musical genres.

This year’s other entries, not already mentioned, are Harry Urata Field Recordings (1960-1980) and Nimrod Workman Collection (1973-1994). Musician and educator Harry Urata, confined to an internment camp after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, encountered Japanese-American workers who had processed sugar cane leaves on Hawaiian plantations since the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Like many immigrant workers, they adapted and sang old folk songs to reflect their daily circumstances. Recognizing the cultural and historical significance of the songs, Urata traveled throughout Hawaii’s islands recording elderly singers who had toiled on sugar plantations. His collection features 20 open-reel tapes recorded from the 1960s to the 1980s.

Born in Inez, Kentucky, in 1895, Nimrod Workman was a folk singer, coal miner and union activist. He began his work in the West Virginian mines at age 14, and he would continue for the next 42 years. After retiring from the mines, he began recording unaccompanied traditional ballads, songs of his own composition and oral history. In 1986, Workman was a recipient of a 1986 National Heritage Fellowship, the U.S. government’s highest honor in the folk arts. Workman died in 1994.

More than 2,600 nominations were made by the public this year. Chicago Transit Authority finished first in the public nominations. Other selected recordings that ranked in the top 10 of public nominations include “Happy Trails,” Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and My Life.

Under the terms of the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, the Librarian of
Congress, with advice from the National Recording Preservation Board, selects 25 titles
each year that are “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Recordings become eligible for the Registry 10 years after release, compared to 25 years for the Grammy Hall of Fame. (Which means the Hamilton cast album won’t be eligible there for another 15 years.)

“These are the sounds of America – our wide-ranging history and culture,” Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement. “The Library of Congress is proud and honored to select these audio treasures worthy of preservation.”

Industry veteran Robbin Ahrold serves as chair of the National Recording Preservation Board. “This year’s National Recording Registry list is an honor roll of superb American popular music from the wide-ranging repertoire of our great nation,” he said in a statement.

These 25 recordings bring the number of titles on the Registry to 675. This represents just a tiny fraction of the Library’s vast recorded sound collection of nearly four million items.

NPR’s “1A” will feature selections from this year’s induction class in its series “The Sounds of America,” including interviews with Hayden and several featured artists.

Here’s the complete list of 2025 additions to the National Recording Registry. They are listed in chronological order by release date.

Billboard Announces Launch of New Hot Latin Songs Sub-Genre Charts

The surveys — Hot Regional Mexican Songs, Hot Latin Pop Songs, Hot Latin Rhythm Songs and Hot Tropical Songs — celebrate the accomplishments of Latin artists based on the same multimetric methodology (official U.S. audio and video streaming, radio airplay and sales) used for the pan-genre Hot Latin Songs chart and the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, with data provided by Luminate.

Bad Bunny doubles up, dominating Hot Latin Rhythm Songs with “DTMF” and Hot Tropical Songs with “Baile Inolvidable.” Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco and The Marías join forces to rule Hot Latin Pop Songs with “Ojos Tristes,” and Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera claim the top spot on Hot Regional Mexican Songs with “Me Jalo.”

Here’s a deeper look at the four charts’ first leaders, which, notably, take the top four spots on Hot Latin Songs.

Bad Bunny Best on Latin Rhythm, Tropical
Bad Bunny’s “DTMF” is No. 1 on the Hot Latin Rhythm Songs chart with 9.6 million official U.S. streams from March 28 to April 3. On the radio front, the song drew 5.4 million audience impressions — up 18% week-over-week.

“DTMF” also tops the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 12th week, having become the superstar’s sweet 16th No. 1. It’s his sixth song to reign for at least a dozen weeks.

Benito’s “Baile Inolvidable,” meanwhile, tops the first Hot Tropical Songs chart, with 8.3 million streams and 6.1 million in radio reach. The track ranks at No. 4 on Hot Latin Songs, after reaching No. 2 on the chart.

Gomez, Blanco & Marías Top Latin Pop
Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco and The Marías’ “Ojos Tristes” crowns Hot Latin Pop Songs fueled by strong streaming and airplay gains. The track, a modern reinterpretation of Jeanette’s British-Spanish classic “El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes,” drew 8.7 million U.S. official streams, up 5%. It’s also beginning on radio, with 506,000 in audience.

“Ojos Tristes” ascends from No. 4 to No. 3 in its second week on Hot Latin Songs.

Fuerza Regida, Grupo Frontera Rule Regional Mexican
Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera’s “Me Jalo” starts atop the Hot Regional Mexican Songs chart, just one week after simultaneously leading both the Latin Airplay and Regional Mexican Airplay charts. The collab collected 8.1 million streams and 7.5 million in radio audience over the last week. It rises 3-2 for a new high on Hot Latin Songs. ]]>

A couple is ready to “take it the next level” after a nice date in the “Making Love” sketch that aired on SNL Saturday night (April 5). Silk pajama-clad lovers-to-be (Jack Black and Sarah Sherman) turn the night into a musical performance, with a little help from Bowen Yang and Brandi Carlile — and with all four of them flying.

Black, the host of Saturday Night Live‘s latest episode, and Sherman are lifted up as they sing (and making swimming motions in the air).

“First we do things to me for a while,” Black sings, “and then we do things to you for not that long.”

They try to incorporate some dirty talk, and get the champagne flowing — right into Sherman’s eyeballs.

“That was so romantic,” Sherman musters, to which Black agrees: “For me as well.” Together, they harmonize: “Because we’re making love.“

“Then without even saying a word, we both know it’s time to bring in a third,” they sing.

“Hello, I’m here to fix your problems,” croons Yang, who appears out of nowhere. “And this will definitely end well.”

Spoiler: Black panics, feels weird for inviting a guy from work to join them, and decides the way to make things all right and “dandy” is “to bring in a fourth … and the fourth is Brandi.”

Watch the “Making Love” sketch below to hear the always-cool Carlile croon her words of wisdom while mid-air.

Elsewhere on Saturday night’s show, the singer-songwriter fulfilled her duties as musical guest with Elton John, performing “Little Richard’s Bible” and “Who Believes in Angels?” from their new album released this week. Carlile and John’s collaborative project, Who Believes in Angels?, was released on Friday (April 4).

PinkPantheress has shared new details about her upcoming mixtape Fancy That, which is due for release on May 9.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday (April 6), the Bath-born musician confirmed the nine songs that would feature on the tracklist, including her recent single “Tonight.” Last month, she teased the May 9 release date in a cryptic Instagram post.

Responding to a fan who wrote “now PinkPantheress has to release Romeo,” in reference to a song first teased on her TikTok in April 2024, Pink replied “posting da tracklist early just to let you all know that it’s track NINE”. See the full tracklist to Fancy That below.

Last week, PinkPantheress shared a first taste of the club-focused mixtape with “Tonight” and its regency era-inspired music video directed by Charlotte Rutherford. The song was the U.K. musician’s first solo release of 2025, and followed a team-up with Shygirl on the latter’s Club Shy Room 2 EP on the song “True Religion.”

Speaking to Mixmag, the songwriter and producer revealed that the mixtape was influenced by the music of Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada, saying she specifically liked “the size of the music”. She added, “All the music sounds so big and grand and present, and I really wanted to make music where it sounds like a statement is being made with the songs. I feel like that was what appealed to me, and it’s something that I wanted to take on board.”

Fancy That will be her first full release since 2023 debut album Heaven Knows, which hit No. 28 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart, and No. 61 on the Billboard 200.

In 2024, she collected the producer of the year prize at the Billboard Women In Music ceremony, and discussed her journey to the award: “As a woman of color in electronic music, specifically two-step, drum and bass, it’s taken a lot for the genre to be recognized on a wider scale. A lot of people didn’t expect me to look the way I did making the music I was making. And nobody, even now, people don’t want to take my music seriously, but I’m just happy that I have the opportunity to be recognized.”

PinkPantheress’ Fancy That Mixtape Tracklist:
1. “Illegal”
2. “Girl Like Me”
3. “Tonight”
4. “Stars”
5. “Intermission”
6. “Noises”
7. “Nice To Know You”
8. “Stateside”
9. “Romeo”

‘American Idol’ Sends Four Singers Into Top 24 After Wild Showstopper Round https://torrentinvites.org/f69/american-idol-sends-four-singers-into-top-24-after-wild-showstopper-round-648313/ Mon, 07 Apr 2025 12:41:38 GMT Sixty-two came in and now 42 will have to face off in a new head-to-head round to earn the 20 remaining spots.

Like gladiators entering the arena, 62 aspiring American Idol contestants survived the first round of Hollywood Week only to run into the buzzsaw of Sunday night’s (April 6) Showstopper rounds. Performing live for the first time in front of an audience at the Orpheum Theatre, as judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie worked to trim 38 aspiring stars from the roster, the singers had to turn things up a notch to make the cut.

In the end four made the first cut.

Gabby Samone wowed the room with her passionate, jazzy cover of Nina Simone’s “Four Women,” which showed off her towering range and emotional maturity on the powerful 1966 anthem that tracks four Black women’s journey from slavery to the present. “My skin is black/ My arms are long/ My hair is wooly/ My back is strong,” Samone sang over subtle piano accompaniment before climbing into a crystal-clear high note that had Richie up on his feet in amazement.

The youngest singer in the competition, Eagleville, TN’s Mattie Pruitt, has rolled through the competition so far despite saying in her opening package that she sometimes has had trouble finding her place in a family with 12 siblings. Though feelings of self-doubt continue to creep in — “I’m not pretty enough, I’m not good at singing” — the high schooler said the Idol stage is the first time she’s felt truly comfortable in her skin.

She proved she belongs in the mix with a cover of James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World,” making the 1966 soul classic her own by slowing it down to a funky stroll and luxuriating in the notes like a seasoned pro used to having crowds in the palm of her hand.

Another early favorite, 17-year-old aspiring preacher Canaan James Hill, also proved that age ain’t nothin’ but a number with his roof-raising cover of Marvin Sapp’s “Never Would Have Made It.” The teen poured some Al Green grit on the gospel great’s 2007 ballad, again inspiring Richie to hop up and testify to some powerful vocals. “Go on man, go on do what you gotta do!” Richie said, shaking his head in wonder, with Bryan saying “he is one of the best singers I have ever seen!”

The last of the four to make it through was Zaylie Windsor, who squeaked by in an earlier round, only to prove that she’d definitely earned her spot with a mesmerizing cover of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever.” The Radiohead-like acoustic take featured Windsor’s emotional vocals, climbing from a near whisper to a roar, filling the theater with ecstatic joy as she wailed the final notes. “Welcome to the Zaylie show!” Underwood said afterwards.

While those four made the cut and will go to the top 24, Jmarie, Will Carter, Santina Madden, Isaiah Moore, Samantha Ray and Jazzy Mae were sent home and the remaining 42 singers will have to fight it out on Monday night (April 7) in head-to-head rounds; that round airs at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Ariana Grande’s 2024 album Eternal Sunshine returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for its third total week atop the list, flying 87-1 on the April 12-dated chart, following the set’s deluxe reissue, dubbed Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead. Bolstered with six previously unreleased songs, the expanded effort — available at streamers, and to purchase as a download, CD and vinyl LP — earned 137,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending April 3 (up 968%), according to Luminate.

All versions of the album, old and new, are combined for tracking and charting purposes and continue to chart under the title Eternal Sunshine.

Eternal Sunshine premiered atop the Billboard 200 dated March 23, 2024, and spent its first two weeks at No. 1. The set contains a pair of chart-toppers on the Billboard Hot 100 in the songs “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).” The project also returns to the top 40 on the Billboard 200 for the first time since the Oct. 19, 2024-dated list, when it ranked at No. 34.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new April 12, 2025-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on April 8. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram.

With Eternal Sunshine’s return to No. 1 after a year and two weeks, it’s the second title in the last six months to jump back to the top after more than a year away. On the Jan. 4, 2025-dated chart, SZA’s SOS shot back to the top after a 22-month vacation from No. 1. It returned to lead the list after its SOS Deluxe: LANA reissue.

Further, Eternal Sunshine has the largest positional jump to No. 1 (bolting 87-1) since last September, when Travis Scott’s Days Before Rodeo vaulted 106-1 on the Sept. 28, 2024-dated list, after the album’s vinyl edition was shipped to customers.

Of Eternal Sunshine’s 137,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending April 3, SEA units comprise 75,000 (up 541%, equaling 98.45 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs; it reenters at No. 2 on Top Streaming Albums), traditional album sales comprise 61,000 (up 5,338%, it reenters at No. 1 on Top Album Sales for a second total week atop the list) and TEA units comprise 1,000 (up 4,115%).

Sales of Eternal Sunshine were bolstered by its availability in a variety of permutations released for the Brighter Days Ahead launch. The original Eternal Sunshine album had 13 tracks, and the core Brighter Days Ahead album added six cuts: one extended version of the album-opening “Inro (End of the World)” and five new songs.

Grande’s webstore sold three exclusive variants of the download edition of the album: the 19-track edition, a version with the 19 tracks plus instrumentals of the same cuts, and another version with the 19 tracks and a cappella versions of each cut (all with alternative cover artwork). Grande also released two vinyl variants and six CD editions of the reissue (some signed by the artist), containing the 19 tracks plus the three bonus tracks originally found on the album’s “slightly deluxe” reissues last year.

Playboi Carti’s MUSIC falls to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart after two weeks on top, with 91,000 equivalent album units earned (down 31%). It holds at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart for a third week.

Lil Durk collects his seventh top 10-charting effort on the Billboard 200 as Deep Thoughts debuts at No. 3 with 64,000 equivalent album units earned. The set arrives largely from streaming activity, as it was only available to purchase as a standard widely available digital download album. Of its first-week units, SEA units comprise 63,000 (equaling 85.92 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs; it debuts at No. 1 on Top Streaming Albums), album sales comprise 1,000 and TEA units comprise a negligible sum.

The rest of the top 10 on the Billboard 200 comprises former No. 1s. Kendrick Lamar’s GNX falls 3-4 (58,000 units; down 10%); PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s $ome $exy $ongs 4 U is down 4-5 (nearly 58,000; down 6%); SZA’s SOS slips 5-6 (56,000; down 7%); Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet dips 6-7 (51,000; down 7%); Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos is a non-mover at No. 8 (45,000; down 8%); Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM falls 7-9 (nearly 45,000; down 15%); and Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time is stationary at No. 10 (almost 45,000; down 2%).

Mariah Carey just pulled a classic mom move by embarrassing her teenage son in front of his friends.

During a recent Twitch livestream, the superstar singer’s 13-year-old son, Moroccan (aka “Rocky”), got frustrated after his twin sister, Monroe, and his mom appeared in the background while he was chatting with his friends.

In all fairness, Rocky had invited Carey to join the livestream after his friends asked to see her. “You want to come here, mom?” he asked, as Monroe and the iconic singer made a brief cameo in the dimly lit background.

Rocky quickly got flustered as his friends in the chat started reacting, and he demanded his mom and sister (who was holding a small dog) leave the room. “OK, y’all need to get out now!” Rocky said. “Mom, they can see you. They’re saying, ‘Hi Mariah, I love you.’”

Carey replied, “Hi, guys, I love you too,” as her son pleaded with her to leave. Meanwhile, his friends in the background couldn’t resist adding, “Hi, Mrs. Carey!”

Moroccan and Monroe are Carey’s twin children with her former husband, Nick Cannon. The pair tied the knot in the Bahamas in 2008, separated in 2014, and finalized their divorce in 2016.

Moroccan and his twin sister have become half-siblings multiple times over, as their dad has welcomed five new children since 2022, bringing his total to 12 kids with six women, including Carey.

Carey is gearing up to take her Celebration of Mimi tour overseas. The singer announced in late March that she’ll be marking the 20th anniversary of her 2005 album with a series of international dates in Asia this May and again in the fall. The celebration of her 10th studio album, The Emancipation of Mimi, began with her fifth residency in Las Vegas at Dolby Live, which launched in April 2024.

The singer, who received her second nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in February, received good news recently when a federal court ruled in her favor, dismissing a copyright lawsuit over her holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The court rejected claims from songwriter Vince Vance, who alleged that Carey and others had stolen key elements of her Christmas hit from his 1989 song of the same name. ]]>

In a new interview with The Times of London, published Friday (April 4), Sir Elton got even more candid about his eyesight problems.

“I can see you, but I can’t see TV, I can’t read,” the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame icon said. “I can’t see my boys playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I’m used to soaking it all up.”

John, who shares sons Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12, with his husband, David Furnish, described the situation as “distressing.”

“You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I’m lucky to have the life I have,” the iconic artist said. “I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of [my left eye]. So you say to yourself, ‘Just get on with it.’”

While appearing on Good Morning America in November 2024, John revealed that he contracted the eye infection while in the South of France. “It’s been four months since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye’s not the greatest. I’m, kind of, stuck in the moment,” he told ABC News’ Robin Roberts at the time.

The hitmaker also shared that his eye issues could impact his ability to make new music.

“I can’t see a lyric, for start. We’re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment, that’s really what we’re concentrating on,” he said. “It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen. It kinda floored me, and I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”

The following month, John addressed his eyesight loss during the stage debut of The Devil Wears Prada in London. “As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight,” he told the crowd at the Dominion Theatre, according to the Daily Mail. “I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it.”

John also joked about his eyesight problems during the 2025 Golden Globes, where he took the stage alongside pal (and fellow Grammy winner) Brandi Carlile, who co-wrote the song “Never Too Late” for his documentary Elton John: Never Too Late with him, Bernie Taupin and Andrew Watt.

“It’s a very special night for me to be here because, I don’t know if you know, but there’s been stories going around about my regressive eyesight,” John said. “I just want to reassure everybody — it’s not as bad as it seems. I’m so pleased to be here with my co-host, Rihanna,” he said, pointing to Carlile.

Despite his eyesight struggles, John teamed up with Carlile for a new collaborative album, Who Believes in Angels?, which arrived on Friday. The duo is set to appear on Saturday Night Live as musical guests on Saturday (April 5), and the day after, they’ll host a one-hour concert special in celebration of the new album. ]]>

“It means a lot to have Snoop Dogg support me at one of my biggest moments,” Redeaux tells Billboard. “I played in his Snoop Youth Football League, and it pathed the way for me to reach my goal of getting a Division 1 college scholarship.”

Also featured in the announcement video (seen in the Instagram post above) was JuJu Watkins, USC’s breakout basketball star and a longtime friend. “JuJu supporting me at this time means so much to me because we grew up together and she has inspired me watching her make history in the city that raised her,” he says. “Can’t wait to share a campus with her, impact the community, and bring national championships back to the city!”

Redeaux says staying home and playing for USC was about more than football. “I choose USC because nothing is more powerful than impacting the hometown community and being the light in my own backyard,” he says. “Some of the determining factors were the amazing USC tradition and legacy — specifically at the running back position — and being a difference maker to bring the winning culture back to USC football and to the city of Los Angeles.”

To mark the occasion, Redeaux shared his ultimate game day hype playlist exclusively with Billboard, highlighting the music that keeps him focused and fired up before he hits the field.

“Drake featuring Rick Ross, ‘Lord Knows’ — the message behind the song is all about motivation and reflection,” he says. “And with the Lord’s guidance, you can accomplish anything. It really gets me in my mode!”

When it’s tunnel time, he turns to NBA YoungBoy’s “Head Blown.” “It puts me into dog mentality to be a lock in the field,” he says.

Other key tracks include J. Cole’s “Love Yourz,” Ginuwine’s “Same Ol G” and Nipsey Hussle’s “Dedication.”

“I’m most excited about strapping it up for the first time at the Coliseum — that will be a dream come true,” he says. “I want to give back to the youth and always show up for the next generation.”
