Out of the eight female duets that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, three of them made history in 2020 alone.

On May 16, Doja Cat's "Say So" remix featuring Nicki Minaj earned both artists their first No. 1 hit. In that week's tight race for the top spot, Megan Thee Stallion and fellow Houston powerhouse Beyoncé debuted at No. 2 for the Megan's "Savage" remix, a historic move where four black female soloists occupied the No. 1 and No. 2 positions on the Hot 100. But on May 30, the "Savage" artists reigned for Megan's first Hot 100 chart-topper.

2020 also marked a pivotal year for Ariana Grande, who notched her record-breaking fourth No. 1 song with Lady Gaga's Chromatica single "Rain On Me" that the Little Monsters and Arianators showered with praise. Grande became the first artist with four No. 1 debuts, following her and Justin Bieber's "Stuck with U" quarantine anthem from May 23, "7 Rings" from February 2019, and "Thank U, Next" from November 2018.

Like Beyoncé once sang, girls prove time after time that they run the world -- and the charts. Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer pioneered this trend in 1979 with their duet "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)," but that really wasn't enough. Brandy and Monica still hold the record for longest-running No. 1 female duet when "The Boy is Mine" topped the Hot 100 for 13 weeks in 1998.
