Watch Weird Al Yankovic fill in for Rivers Cuomo in Weezer’s wacky video for ‘Africa’
The band's cover of the Toto pop classic has been given the visual treatment
Weezer have shared the video for their cover of Toto‘s ‘Africa’ – with comedian musician Weird Al Yankovic filling in for frontman Rivers Cuomo in the humorous performance clip.
The rock band’s cover of the classic 1982 pop song came about earlier this year following a fan campaign, which culminated with Weezer’s cover of ‘Africa’ being met with Toto taking on ‘Hash Pipe’.
The mutual appreciation between the two artists has continued with the new release of Weezer’s wacky video for their cover of ‘Africa’. Directed by Brendan Walter and Jade Ehlers, the clip doesn’t actually feature any members of Weezer – with Weird Al instead filling in for Cuomo on ‘singing’ duties.

In other wacky ‘Africa’ news, Toto recently responded to plans by a Bristol music venue to play their hit track on loop all night – describing the club’s idea as “worse than waterboarding”.
“I mean it’s been GREAT for us in many ways, but we recorded this as a deep cut track in 1981,” founding member Steve Lukather wrote on Twitter about the enduring popularity of ‘Africa’. “NO idea what it would become!”
Last week, Weezer released a new track ‘California Snow’, which features on the soundtrack to the new film Spell.
