It's the first time the music producer has ever toured

Legendary music producer Giorgio Moroder has announced his first ever live tour in Europe in today (October 10).

The “Godfather of Disco”, now 78, often considered to be the founder of electronic dance music, will embark on a 15-city European tour in April and May 2019.

The tour, called ‘A Celebration of the 80’s’, will see Moroder performing highlights from his prolific career, both past and present, alongside his band and vocalists.

Fans will see Moroder, deemed “the man who invented dance music” by Nile Rogers, conduct, play the vocoder, electronic effects and sounds. He will also play the piano and share stories that have, according to a press release “never left the walls of his studio before.”

He will also use the tour to play tribute to his long time muse Donna Summer, who will appear on screen in sync with Moroder and his band.

Speaking about the tour, Moroder said: “It is something I have always wanted to do, fans kept reaching out to me, asking if I would ever do a real tour. Back in the days it was unthinkable for producers to ever leave their studios.”

He continued: “That territory was reserved for the singers. Today DJ’s and music producers have become the superstars of popular dance music, so the time feels right and I am so excited to be finally doing this!”

Moroder first gained recognition in the 1970’s working alongside Summer, Cher, Blondie, Davie Bowie and Freddie Mercury. More recently, the producer worked with the likes of Daft Punk, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Charli XCX and more.

Tickets for the tour will go on sale at 9am on Friday October 12. The full dates of the tour are listed below.
