The floor at the iconic venue has been replaced for the first time in 40 years

The flooring at Nottingham’s iconic Rock City venue has been replaced for the first time in 40 years, and patrons are being offered a chance to own a piece of the old one.

After opening in 1980, Rock City has seen the likes of Nirvana, David Bowie, The Smiths, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, Queens Of The Stone Age, Rage Against The Machine and countless more grace its stage. However during that time, the beer and sweat-soaked floor has never been replaced.

Now, it’s been upgraded with the flooring of a basketball court, and the parts of the old dancefloor in the main arena are up for grabs.

“Currently we have the new floor going in as the old one that holds so much history is being taken away to be lovingly restored and embossed with a Rock City logo,” Rock City promotions manager Adam Wood told the Nottingham Post. “We know how many great memories were made on the old floor so that’s why we have decided to offer a limited amount back to the public as a fantastic piece of Rock City memorabilia. People met their future partners on that floor and witnessed some of the biggest acts in the world.”

He added: “We’ve had loads of people sharing some great memories with us so far and it’s been amazing reading through them all!”

Made of Canadian Maple, 3,000 limited edition pieces of the floor will be available for fans priced between £25-£30, after being cleaned, sanded and branded with the Rock City logo.

To be eligible to get a piece, you need to fill in this form on the Rock City website, providing contact details as well as why you are interested in owning one.

As the Nottingham Post reports, fans have been flocking to the website with plans to build guitars and wedding presents out of the flooring, having experienced many great gig memories and even having met their partners at the Talbot Street venue.

The first gig where fans can experience the new floor will be Enter Shikari, who headline on Friday January 11.
