It could refer to the upcoming anniversary of his posthumous 'Greatest Hits' collection

The estate of Tupac Shakur have started a countdown to a release they’re cryptically referring to only as ‘1998’ – with the big reveal set to take place this coming weekend.

This latest project was announced on the Tupac Instagram account yesterday (November 19) with an image of the late rapper and the words “1998 – Saturday 11/24” printed across it. The account is managed by the Shakur Estate, who use the tagline: “His legacy lives.”

“Sign up to be the first to know,” the post’s caption reads, before linking to a page on the official 2Pac store.

The page then asks you to sign up to the official 2pac Shop Mailing List in order to “be the first to know” about what exactly will be released this Saturday (November 24) when ‘1998’ drops.

As some fans have already pointed out, this Saturday will mark the twentieth anniversary of the release of Tupac’s posthumous ‘Greatest Hits’ collection. While it’s likely that this new project will be connected to that compilation, nothing further has been confirmed by the Tupac estate at the time of writing.

Last month, former boxer Mike Tyson broke down emotionally while being interviewed as he recalled the night that Tupac was fatally shot in Las Vegas in 1996.
