Tom Petty Hides New Song 'Forgotten Man' on His Website

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been sharing songs from their upcoming record, Hypnotic Eye, in small bursts, but it would take a particularly curious Petty fan to discover the rocker "Forgotten Man" on the group's website. The band has created a Hypnotic Eye online radio – designed to look like the old-fashioned radio Petty used in a preview video – which can be turned on with the knob on the right and tuned to five new songs with the one on the left. As spotted by Consequence of Sound, dialing in to the range between 280 and 260 on the upper FM dial reveals "Forgotten Man," a sizzling statement of discontent in which Petty sings, "I feel like a four-letter word." Hypnotic Eye comes out officially on July 29th.

Moving the dial on the radio reveals four other Petty songs that have been previously released. "U Get Me High" starts between 300 and 280 on the dial, "Red River" is in the 260 – 240 range, "American Dream Plan B" occupies the area between 240 and 220 and "Fault Lines" plays on 220. That last song is also streaming below, and several other Hypnotic Eye songs are streaming on Tom Petty's SoundCloud page.

"I knew I wanted to do a rock & roll record," Petty told Rolling Stone earlier this year. "We hadn't made a straight hard-rockin' record, from beginning to end, in a long time."

Later this year, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be hitting the road for a North American tour. Every ticket purchased includes a copy of Hypnotic Eye.
