Some big names are in the running

The favourites for this year’s Christmas No. 1 have been revealed as bookmakers Betway have shared their odds for the festive chart-topper

Ariana Grande is currently the favourite to land at the top spot on December 22 with her latest single ‘Thank U, Next’, with odds of 6/5. She faces competition from some big names though, with Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Clean Bandit, and Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson all in the running.

The pop star could also be beaten to the top of the charts by this year’s X Factor winner, Dalton Harris. Since being crowned champion of the TV talent show, Harris has released his debut single – a cover of Jennifer Rush’s ‘Power Of Love’.

US singer Ava Max has been given odds of 7/2 to make a surprise ascent to the number one spot with her single ‘Sweet But Psycho’, while Lancashire’s Flakefleet Primary School are at 4/1 with their original charity song ‘Light Up’, which aids the Alzheimers Society.

Check out the full odds below:

Ariana Grande – 6/5
Ava Max – 7/2
Flakefleet Primary School – 4/1
Dalton Harris – 5/1
Elton John – 15/2
Ed Sheeran – 9/1
Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson – 9/1
Clean Bandit – 10/1

Last year, Sheeran was named Christmas number one as a reworked version of his single ‘Perfect’, which featured Andrea Bocelli and Beyoncé, made its way to the top of the charts.

John’s contender for this year’s title is taken from the latest John Lewis Christmas advert. After the commercial’s release, the star reached out to a man who shares his name with the department store and has the Twitter handle @JohnLewis.

Meanwhile, Grande released the video for ‘Thank U, Next’ last week, which saw her parodying classic ’00s movies like Mean Girls, Bring It On, and Legally Blonde. She has since explained why she wasn’t seen pasting a photo of Mac Miller in her burn book, unlike her other exes.
