He joins Slash as a fan of the band

Billy Corgan has praised Greta Van Fleet, the Michigan band whose music has been said to be heavily indebted to Led Zeppelin.

During one of the Smashing Pumpkin frontman’s Instagram Q&As, a person asked the alt-rock legend if he was a fan of the band, whose debut album ‘Anthem Of The Peaceful Army’ was released last year.

“Great, and sky’s the limit for where they can go,” Corgan replied [via AlternativeNation].

Smashing Pumpkins and Greta Van Fleet played together at KROQ Absolut Almost Acoustic Christmas in Los Angeles last month.

Corgan isn’t alone in his support for the band. Slash said in an interview with Billboard Radio China in December that he thinks rock music is now “turning over a new leaf” thanks to bands like Greta Van Fleet.

Slash said: “Obviously, Greta Van Fleet have done amazingly well and made everybody perk up and go, ‘Oh, wow!’ Now there’s people out there looking for young, teenage rock and roll bands to sign. So it’s interesting.

“If you watch everything as it develops in real time, it’s really, really boring and shit takes what seems like forever. But if you’re not paying attention, all of sudden, you’ll turn around and go, ‘Oh my God! Something just changed.'”

In a May 2018 interview with NME, vocalist Josh Kiszka responded to Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant’s comment that Kiszka has “borrowed” his voice. Kiska said that “[Plant] pretty much invented the platform for rock’n’roll singers,” adding, “there are similarities, and I see it, so it was pretty amazing that he mentioned it.”
