A Los Angeles judge has approved Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears' request to be temporarily relieved of his role as the 37-year-old singer's conservator.

Jamie filed court papers on Sept. 5 asking the court to allow him to step down at his daughter’s conservatorship and to appoint a temporary conservatorship in his place. Britney has been under a conservatorship since 2008 when she was taken into UCLA hospital in an ambulance on a 5150 psychiatric hold after refusing to relinquish custody of her children. Following that incident, Spears' father petitioned the court to place the pop star in a conservatorship and under his care as her conservator.

Now, after Britney went to court on May 10 with her mother, Lynne Spears, and personally addressed the court, judge Brenda Penny has been reviewing all aspects of the 11-year-old conservatorship.

Jamie cited “personal health reasons” as the reason for asking for the change. He asked that a temporary conservator, Jodi Montgomery, be appointed to serve from Sept. 9 to Jan. 20, 2020. The move to relinquish his conservatorship powers might have been spurned by confidential documents Britney's ex-husband and father of her two sons, Kevin Federline, filed on Aug. 28.

Montgomery will now be in charge of providing temporary care, maintenance and support for Britney. Per the documents filed by Jamie, Montgomery will have the power to restrict and limit visitors “by any means” except for the meeting of Spears with her court-appointed attorney Samuel Ingham, the power to retain caretakers on a 24 hour/seven day basis, the power to retain security guards and the power to communicate with Spears’ doctors and have access to any and all records regarding her treatment and diagnosis.

The document states that Montgomery “is an experienced professional fiduciary with ability, experience, and support resources, to take on these obligations during this time and has been the care manager for Spears for approximately a year." And that it is in the “best interest” of Spears that Montgomery be appointed.
