Get ready for some rare gems...

Record Store Day have announced a host of new releases to coincide with Black Friday on 23 November.

This year, the event will also continue into ‘Small Business Saturday’ on 24 November, to give consumers “a second day of reasons to shop at local, independent record stores.” You can read more about the event, which is separate to the annual ‘Record Store Day’ in April, here.

Speaking about the event, Record Store Day co-founder and organiser Carrie Colliton said: “I will never get tired of saying that gifts from a record store, for yourself or someone else, are just the coolest thing you could possible get.”

Colliton added: “I think that a lot of people are realising that sometimes what you find at a record store is just a little different, a little more special because the person behind the music – the person who’s putting the release together, the folks behind the package on the shelf, feel that record stores are special too.”

RSD First: These titles are found first at indie record stores, but may be released to other retailers or webstores at some point in the future.
Small run/Regional List: These titles are either regionally based and sold at specific stores, or are press runs under 1000, which means they may be harder to find at record stores around the US.

Some highlights from the releases include Weezer’s special edition of Toto’s ‘Africa’ cover as a limited-edition 10-inch picture disk, presented in the shape of Africa. Only 3000 have been pressed.

Earlier this year, Weezer released the cover after a campaign for them to cover the song went viral on Twitter. A dedicated Twitter account named @weezerAfrica started an epic campaign to request that Weezer take on the Toto classic.

Garbage will release a brand new single called ‘Destroying Angels’, recorded with John Doe and Exene. The B-Side will also be a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ taken from an old Howard Stern radio broadcast.

Talking Heads will reissue their fourth album ‘Remain In Light’ on a red, see-through vinyl. The release is limited to 5,550 copies worldwide.

Other highlights include Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Live & Rare’ – their 1997 collection of live and demo takes – which will be available on vinyl for the first time, having previously only been available in Japan.

Capital Punishment, meanwhile, will release an EP featuring their first new music in 35 years. The band was Ben Stiller’s high school punk band.
