Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)” breaks the record for the most weeks in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as its 8-7 climb secures an unprecedented 45th frame on the list dated Sept. 14. The track outlasts the previous champ, The Weeknd’s “The Hills,” which clocked 44 weeks in the tier in 2015-16.

“Sunflower,” released as the lead single from the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, debuted at No. 6 on the chart dated Nov. 3, 2018, on its way to 11 weeks at No. 1. The collaboration gave Post Malone his third of four leaders, while Swae Lee achieved his first as a solo act.

Here’s a look at the songs with the most weeks in the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs top 10 since its 1958 start. Notably, all of the entries below have occurred since 2013 as the week-over-week consistency from streaming and changes to the chart's metholodogy have resulted in the prolonged endurace of hits popular across multiple genres and formats.

Weeks in Top 10, Title, Artist, Year(s) in Top 10
45, “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse),” Post Malone & Swae Lee, 2018-19

42, “Thrift Shop,” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz, 2012-13
40, “Happy,” Pharrell Williams, 2014
39, “Blurred Lines,” Robin Thicke featuring T.I. + Pharrell, 2013-14
38, “Trap Queen,” Fetty Wap, 2015

Besides its superstar artist combo, “Sunflower” traces its record longevity to the success of its accompanying film and wildly consistent streaming numbers. The Spider-Verse film, which prominently features “Sunflower” in its opening scene, kicked off at No. 1 at the U.S. box office in December 2018. The flick won the Golden Globe for best animated feature film in January 2019 and the Academy Award for best animated feature the following month.

The buzz pushed the single to No. 1 on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart in January, where it reigned for three nonconsecutive weeks and lands its 38th week in the top 10 on the most recently published list, the second-best run in the chart’s history. Since its release, “Sunflower” has averaged 32 million U.S. streams each week, according to Nielsen Music.

Thanks to “Sunflower” and its latest chart achievement, Post Malone now boasts the titles with the most weeks in the top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. His 2016 debut LP, Stoney, logged 77 weeks in the latter list’s top 10 to surpass Michael Jackson’s Thriller and its 76-week run, in August 2018.
